MPG (Miles per Gallon) V GPM (Gallons per Mile)

So, the big news right now is that using Gallons per Mile may be a better indicator of fuel economy than Miles per Gallon.

You can read about it here.

I got to thinking, what are the exact numbers? To that effect I've made a spreadsheet. You can download it here.

The first sheet is a graph showing total gas used to go 200,000 miles at a given MPG.

It goes from 1 mpg on up.

The second sheet is a conversion chart. It shows you how much gas you save if you change from one mileage to another over 200,000 miles.

For instance, if you pick 34 on the vertical column, and go to 40 on the horizontal column, the number in that cell is the amount of gas saved over 200,00 miles. Just remember that vertical is the original mileage and horizontal is the new mileage. It you go from 40 to 20, then it gives you a negative number as you are using more gas.

Anyways, I hope this spreadsheet helps. I know I found it interesting.
