Ten years had passed since the army had attempted to take their father, Gethin, and their mother, Amber, away for testing.  That mission had ended in failure.  Both Gethin and Amber were brutally murdered in front of their ten children and friend Charlie.  Although they had tried to stay together, the brothers had managed to split off into groups of two following an ambush from the North Forest Elves seeking to purify their people's blood and prevent the births of any more half-breeds.  In the present, all that was known by Adam and Brendon was that they were possibly the last members of their family alive.

For the longest time, the two boys had almost forgotten about their troubles, thinking that perhaps all the pain they had experienced would never resurface.  Adam and Brendon failed to realize that, as members of the Doran clan, they would have to face a life or death challenge in order to be free from the family curse.

Their challenge was about to begin...

"Let us out, damn it!" Mark Pavol shouted from inside his jail cell.

"It's hopeless, Marky; they'll never let us out," Peter Pavol sat on top of the toilet bowl holding his head in his right hand.

"On the contrary, you vile mutts, we may give you some freedom," a high pitched female voice cackled from outside the bars.

Mark became even angrier, "Then tell us!"

"Now, now, young man; that is no way to speak to the ones who control your fate."

Four colourful figures dressed in the finest North Forest garb stood before the two prisoners.

"Aelvaira, my dear, who would have ever thought that our daughter's wretched spawn would be so rude?" the sole man spoke to the woman in red.

"It is too bad, Kirain, that our grandsons are not pure blooded like us; they would make wonderful half-breed hunters if our daughter had not gone to bed with that stinking human boy," Aelvaira replied, "Ah, but I'm sure that if they loved their family and their lives they would make us proud."

The familiar cackle came forth from the blonde woman, "Oh enough you two, we all know that we need their help.  Baiir, fetch the specimen for us, will you?" the woman directed the red head toward the forest, "Now then, Mark and Peter- what horrid names you were given by that whore of a daughter Aelvaira gave birth to- it may surprise you that we will provide your freedom from persecution by the North Forest if you complete a simple task for us.

But we would like to show you what could happen if you refuse."

A small, whimpering black-eyed man followed the red-headed woman into the open.

"Please, please don't hurt me."

"Baiir, please show these two what we'll do to them if they do not comply with our demands," the blond shouted.

Baiir picked up a gun and pointed it toward the man.

"Now then, watch as she uses that instrument in a very specific manner."

A gunshot rang out through the forest.  Blood splattered from the man's stomach onto the ground.  He reached out toward Baiir only to tremble for a few short moments before ceasing to live.

The blonde woman walked graciously toward the cell, "Now do you understand?"

"Crystal c-clear, ma'am," Peter stuttered in reply.

"So are you willing to comply then?  Hmm?"

"Mark, please, I don't want to die," Peter whispered.

"Fine."

"Fine what?" the blonde woman shouted.

"We'll do whatever you want, lady."

The woman lead the two to an old well situated at the North-most point of the forest.  The woman approached the well cautiously and began looking down into it.

"Great well of knowledge," she chanted, "It is I, Tiana Galaloth.  I bring two half-breeds willing to do our bidding.  Show us the faces that they must know in order to complete their task!"

A flash of light shone out of the well showing two faces.

A deep voice gurgled from the water, "Dorans Adam and Brendon."

"Ah..." Tiana laughed as she spoke, "So these are the two that you are meant to kill."

Peter gulped, "K-kill?"

"Boys, you did agree to anything for your freedom.  You are going to kill these two half-breeds or we will kill you; I thought that was mutually understood."

Peter and Mark looked at one another and replied grimly, "We understand."

"It'll be a pleasure doing business with you."

Tania laughed manically and lead the boys out of the forest.

Elsewhere...

"Brendon, how did you manage to afford this place for us?" Adam asked coyly to his closest brother.

"Dude, you really don't want to know."

So welcome to the story of Adam and Brendon Doran.  I hope you enjoyed the prologue because it's taken me months to finally decide which route I'm going with.  I'll try and update this as much as I can, but I also have an apocalypse I'm finishing soon and school starting up in September.

Bye for now,
Reginald
