Computer issues

My nice computer seems to be on the fritz... blinking cursor and that's all. Anyone local here good with troubleshooting that kinda stuff? I dread the though of spending the weekend talking to someone on the phone I can't understand from India named "Steve".
I'm hoping if I let it sit it will fix itself. Every time I've had issues in the past if I can't get it to boot, it eventually goes into "uh-oh" mode and backs itself up from a previous image. All I know is I had a Mcafees alert saying I needed to restart my pc for updates, which does happen from time to time, and I hadnt rebooted in a while. Now.. black screen blinking cursor. ACCCCCKKKK
