I knew last night that this morning was not going to be easy. I was taking two of my cats (who don't get along, but they were in separate carriers and I put one in the front and one in the back seats) and a foster cat to the vet. I would have to first drive the 20 min to pick up the foster cat then another 15 to 20 min to the vet.
Not surprisingly there was a chorus of cat cries the entire time. Asparagus continually claws at her cage and makes the most pitiful cat cries. I arrive at the vet's office, and everything is going alright. Cats aren't too happy, and I hear the foster cat in the back scream when they do a feline leukemia test on her, but otherwise the cats are good and healthy.
I go into the waiting room with the cats to await the results and pay the bill. That is when the bleep hit the fan. When I put my hand on the carrier, I could feel the wetness. My hopes that it was just water somehow were in vain. I figure that it is just a bit of urine, and ask for a couple paper towels. I take Asparagus out and see she is SOAKED in urine. Talk about one pissy cat ~_^
I wasn't laughing much at the time though. I am trying to hold Asparagus down while cleaning up the urine in the cage. Meanwhile she's trying to climb on me, and all around her, which spreads the urine all around the vet floor and on my jeans and shirt. I keep holding her, which only has the urine soak into my clothes even more. To make matters worse, the vet's aid is helping other people, and can't get me more paper towels. I use a puppy pad I had brought in another cage to try to soak up the urine, and another patient gives me some baby wipes, and I feel like I'm sliding all around trying to get this soaked cat and the cat carrier somewhat dry. When its good enough, I put the cats in the car, and go.
Again, I have to drop off the foster cat first. When I get home, here comes bath time! Asparagus is absolutely miserable by this point (no doubt the smell of urine for the 40 min trip wasn't fun), crying, and everything around us smells like cat urine. I immediately grant my other cat freedom and take Asparagus to the dreaded bath.
I haven't ever given my cat a bath. She's normally very clean, but I didn't want her licking up her own urine, so I got out the baby shampoo (not a lot), soaked her with the shower head, and then washed her with the washcloth that had the shampoo on it. It wasn't easy. It was a fight to keep her in the tub (which wasn't filled with water, I was just using the shower head). After the final rinse, which lasted maybe ten to twenty very long seconds, I wrapped her in the towel.
She's now a bit damp, but otherwise smells like her old self again. Meanwhile, I think its time that I take that bath....
