So much for posting everyday.
A lot happened over the past few days though and I wasn't exactly able to log on and get my stuff together even, which is really bad since I need to get a job and I neglected that over the past week.
So here's how it started...
I worked for Terry Kelly at Serv Pro for the first time on Thursday. It wasn't too bad, we started in Owosso, then went to Dewitt, and then Ovid Elsie. That ended my first day, but I didn't get out until nearly 9:00. It was a lot of work, and it is all work that I am not familiar worth so it is mentally exhausting. I think I am doing okay with it and I am doing my best to take all of the details in.
Friday, I worked for Terry again, but the day was a little different. I spent the whole day working at one site with Matt Stewart. I really like working with him. Actually I spent the whole day Thursday working with him too. We were trying to dry out a floating floor that had flooded. All of this Serv Pro stuff is disaster restoration, but it seems like the majority of their work comes from flood jobs, which makes this the peak season of the year for them, especially since we had gotten some form of precipitation almost every day for the last two weeks. So there is all of this drying equipment, fans (which they call air movers) and dehumidifiers and heaters. Its really cool and it really is a science, which makes really stimulating on an intellectual level (but also exhausting.
I finished Friday, but helping Dad tear off the back side of the roof on our house. We planned on shingling it on Saturday. We got that taken care of and I should say that my working day was over at 9:30. Then I drove up to Mount Pleasant for Senior farewell at the fraternity house. I don't know how but somehow I pulled off the impossible and got the gifts for my little brothers in time to take them to farewell. I owe Rachel, my sister, big time for that too, because she picked the rings up and paid for the engraving for me, even though it was not on her way. So she left those at home for me and I took them to Mount Pleasant. They were silver rings with 'My Brothers Keeper' engraved on the inside. Both Kobo and Nalian were really excited about them and everyone was really impressed. The point wasn't to impress anyone though. The point was to give them a gift that would act as a reminder of their oath as a Phi Kappa Tau. It was pretty sweet that people were impressed though. Oh, and I bought one for me also. At the end of it all, the rings probably cost me $65. I also brought some cigars for some of the Seniors; M. Tart, R. Tart and T-Nel. It was nice to get a smoke and I was sad that Schutte and Dutot couldn't stay for the cigars. I hung out the house until about one a.m. when I went to bed. Staj let me sleep in his room and that was huge too.
Saturday, I got up at 6 am and drove home, arriving home around 7:30. I had a DJ job at the St. Edwards family center. It was for the festival tables and it went okay, all things considered. They needed two microphones, but didn't tell me, so they got one. There were some issues with reception on the microphone, and that pretty much consumed all of my attention for the duration of the event, between bites of licorice (cherry bites, yum). I flirted with some of the older women, I like doing that because it is fun. The event went from 10:30 to 1:00. When I got home, I left the equipment in the van and helped shingle the part of the roof that we had torn off the day before. Boucher, Preston and the Morrisons were there to help my dad, Ashton and me. Oh, and my uncle Don too. They didn't have much done from the morning, but they had to set up the scaffolding and get their ducks in a row. Josh was giving me a hard time about not visiting him. I really think that I should try harder to connect with him and Matt more often, but there are a lot of things that I should do and really at the end of the day, I find myself over programmed anyways. We were able to finish the back portion of the house by dark.
After shingling, Preston and I went over to Josh's to play CoD: Black Ops. I got killed a lot and was by far the worst player there. Josh won every game, and Matt was mad the whole time. Ashton was over, but didn't seem to be enjoying himself at all. Regardless, Preston and I enjoyed ourselves, eating M&Ms, drinking Pepsi and getting beat like we done something wrong. The night culminated with Preston and I playing a round against Matt and Josh, and they could use only pistols. We actually made a game of it, losing by 3 kills in the last minute.
Sunday, we tore off the west sections of the house, and shingled it up. I found out why it took those guys all morning to set-up that scaffold on Saturday. Dad, Don and I skipped out on church. I need to make that up this week. Everything went fine until we started surfacing the new sections. Ashton was running the Fire and Ice and we had a disagreement about how to do it. It turned into some drama, but other than that, things got done without much incident. The wind was really intense and I was glad to get off the roof. Almost the entire Haskin family showed up to help us, along with Josh and Preston. After we cleaned everything up, I pretty much crashed to bed.
I woke up this morning, with a ferocious appetite and pretty much spent the entire morning eating at work. I worked for Terry again, only today, I was with him all day instead of Matt. I tried to get some information out of him concerning the specifics of his business. He suggested we do that over a beer. I will have to take him up on that. I finished at 6 today and now I have to move my plants into the garage. I have had a plantar's wart for the past year and would really like to get rid of it, but that is a story for another time since this monster post is already long enough.
