Last night I had this dream, and I think that there might be a lot more to it than I orignally thought. There's just so much detail to what I have been remembering all day, that it must be significant. Here it goes...
I am in some sort of complex, similar to a college campus. I am actually on my way to one of the buildings where a lot of people live. Many of the people I encounter seem slightly younger than me in age. I spend most of the dream trying to find someone in the dormitories.
The person I am looking for seems to have hired me for a Disc Jockey job, for an upcoming date. I am looking for 'her' in the dormitories. The building that she is supposed to be in is part of a quad. Each building in the quad has a different name, but I keep confusing the names because they all sound similar to me. The inside of the dormitories all seems similar, and they are connected in the same way that Gilchrist and Yakely are connected on MSU's Campus (Those two dorms have an interesting set of stairs and levels that don't match up very nicely when they connect), so I always know when I have moved from one dormitory to the other because the buildings don't connect very nicely.
So, I am looking for this person and every time I reach my destination where I think I will find her, I am told that she is somewhere else in the quad. After a great deal of confusion, trying to find her in this laberinth, I happen to pass through a cafeteria. It seems fairly empty and I decide to get some food.
As I start to eat, I decide to take off my shoes. Once my shoes are off, a black man sits down across from me, asking what I am doing. I mention to him that I am looking for this 'woman,' but I couldn't seem to connect with her in the dorms. He explains to me that there is a ball in downtown Grand Rapids and that she will probably be there.
I get up from my meal and walk out of the buildings. As I approach the street, I catch a dark colored (not yellow) Taxi. When I sit down I notice that there are several people in the car dressed for the ball. I am confident that the Taxi driver is from Latin America even though he speaks English very well.
The other people in the cab seem concerned about my clothes, so I decide to change in the car. Along the way, I notice that the Taxi meter in the car. I am appalled at the cost that the ride will cost. I ask the driver if that is the total or individual price. He says because this is a special ride it is the individual price. He says that I should understand that things are always more expensive in the city, even a small one like Grand Rapids.
When I finish changing, I notice that I am not wearing any shoes, because I left them under that table in the cafeteria. The other people in the cab indicate that I will not be let into the ball because I don't have any shoes. As they exit the cab, I begin speaking Spanish to the driver, informing him of my dilemna. He says that he can take me back, but he will charge me full price for the ride of course. I know I can't afford to come back to the ball if I return to get my shoes, but I take the ride anyways so I can go get my shoes.
We return to the campus. I go get my shoes and I decide to go home, since I can't afford to go to the ball anyways. When I get home, I go to bed. I wake up in the morning and run into my sister later in the day. When I talk to her, she asks how the 'Winterfest' disc jockey job went. I am really confused because that's the job that I thought I was setting up the night before.
I begin to wonder if the ball was the job, but my sister says that it was at the High School. I start looking through my calendar to find yesterday's date, but I cannot find anything about 'Winterfest.' Then I realize that it doesn't make any sense for me to have job called 'Winterfest' in April and that she couldn't be referring to anything that happened the night before.
