I am sure that everyone is going to post about this.
So, lets take a look at this guy who decided it was necessary to share his pain with the entire nation. Some Asian guy breaks up with his girlfriend or something and goes on a rampage, then takes his own life. First off, the guy was probably unstable to begin with and whatever was going on in his life pushed him over the edge. Even if some of his friends show up on TV and say that he was perfectly normal and this was a surprise, I won't believe it. I don't know how many times I have heard bull shit like that said on TV.
One time, this kid in my hometown got struck by lightning outside our church. The priest (god bless his soul, Father Tom was an excellent pastor) gets on channel 8 news saying that this couldn't have happened a nicer young man. That kid was an asshole. I'm not saying that he deserved to be struck by lightning, but the only reason he was at church was because his family was involved and his dad was moving some furniture into the rectory.
So this is a guy who is pushed over the edge and decides well life isn't worth living so I might as well go kill some people and take my own life. If you ask me, suicide is the most cowardly act someone can commit, but this guy went and destroyed the future of several of his peers. Sweet dude, way to be selfish.
So now that it is done and over, none of that really matters. How will the situation be dealt with? More security, stricter gun control, temporary paranoia in short. Thats what people will be screaming for anyways. I was talking to Havener and Tim on the porch and they mentioned how lax gun control is. Havener starts going off on some tangent about how a small town high school principle would probably talk to a student about a gun his student has in the back of his truck.
So what? I probably could have gone hunting with my high school principal if I wanted to. His son graduated with me and almost every guy in my class hunted. Knowledgeable hunters don't go off on rampages like this guy did. Hunters have a respect for guns, and those idiots in the country who don't have that respect don't keep gun safes full of guns. Every time I handle a gun I have to respect the power it contains. A gun is extremely dangerous and I have been taught that even if you think you know its not loaded or the safety is on or your finger isn't on the trigger, you do not have the luxury of being wrong. That is the kind of respect a good hunter has for his gun, and regardless how radical the NRA seems, I bet you those guys know their guns better than most random college kids know their course material. They wouldn't care so much otherwise.
Besides, the guy at tech wasn't shooting people with a shotgun, he had a revolving pistol and a nine millimeter. Some hunters do use handguns, not that often. Plus, even if guns were controlled better. If I wanted to kill some people without a gun, give me a couple days in the woods and I could make a kick ass bow or some bombs or drug the water supply in a nearby city. Where there is a will there's a way. I think I just wanted to spout on the gun control issue.
My condolances go out to all the families affected by this disaster.
