This post is about a conversation that I overheard, that I just don't want to forget. I was walking to Moore hall behind these two guys in cowboy hats and this is what they were saying.
...no, no, no. Dude, thats just outrageous.
But think about it. All of the worlds problems could be resolved through a calculus equation.
Calculus! How the hell do you figure?
Okay, so money is the 'root' of all evil, right?
That's what they say.
So, what we need to do is eliminate money from the equation.
From what equation?
The world equation!
And how do you think you're going to do that?
Well, if money is the 'root' of all evil, then simply determine what the square root of evil is and subtract it from the world equation.
This is so stupid. I can't believe I am even talking about this. How do you determine what is evil in the world equation?
Well, it would have to be trial and error at first, starting with the things that we know are evil and determine their value, or in this case, their effect on the world equation. Take the square root of their value and subtract it. Try out the equation and we will certainly be able to determine if we eliminated the evil or not. Then we analyze the results and search for which parts of the equation we missed. Plug in the numbers and eventually we eliminate evil little by little.
(Okay, so that probably is not exactly how everything was said, but they were definately going on for five minutes about how you would eliminate evil from the world by taking square roots and subtracting it from this supposed world equation. I found it funny and I want to be able to read it later someday. Take it home and chew it if you want.)
