So I went to the neurosurgeon on Thursday and the consensus is surgery. When everything else fails... let’s cut!
January 26th will be my official opening and I’ll be having the Lumbar Laminectomy which: “is designed to remove a small portion of the bone over the nerve root and/or disc material from under the nerve root to give the nerve root more space and a better healing environment”.
The Bad: I’m nervous (read: scared) and I have 11 more days to feed, nurture and grow that feeling.
The Good: I have a LOT of documentation, the entire internet, nothing else to do and a few friends (online - you know who you are, and IRL) who have been through recent similar and dis-similar experiences to help allay my fears and educate, console me.
The Best: I’m a firm believer in education to fight fear of the unknown and I’m gonna educate my not-so-little ass off about this whole ordeal.
The Greatest: I have a partner who after nearly 12 years together has proven time and again that he is by my side, no matter what, through all of this (and more)!
I’ll be glad when this is all over and I can get back to my business and looking for work, and photography and standing without pain, and rolling over in bed without screaming, and, and, and..... all that stuff!
...and maybe, just maybe, putting something in my journal that doesn’t talk about this shit that has permeated my being for the last 4-5 months...
