The Best Article I've Read on What to Do Regarding US Healthcare / Stewart on Sebelius

Oct 08, 2013 07:09

The best article I've seen regarding the US health system and what to do about it. Read it in full--Mike Smith makes a lot of sense.

Meanwhile, Jon Stewart ripped HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius last night. He got non-answers and at the end wondered if he was lied to.

I do expect the shutdown to end in a week or so; eventually both sides will ( Read more... )

Noted leftie moonbat Jennifer Rubin blasts the GOP

Right-wingers who cheered the government shutdown are loath to admit it didn’t work out as planned. They therefore have come up with a series of pronouncements, which unfortunately lack any evidentiary support.

Oh wait..... she's not a leftie.

I don't really see how you can say it's not hurting. One, it's too early to tell. Two, even if the GOP's best case that both parties will be blamed is true, Obama will absorb the hit for the Democrats. Guess what? He's not running for anything. Every Republican in the house is, and most of the GOP presidential candidates are on the shutdown/default bandwagon.

i am not trying to be flip, but I dont think it is incumbent on me to prove why its not hurting the GOP. Rubin, and I assume you, are saying it is. Show me some proof other than talking heads.

Obama is on the 2014 ticket just like Bush was in 2006. Gerrymandering makes 80% of GOP districts safe and the other 20 are also semi safe. I think there are only 17 GOP house members who are in Obama districts.

Country has changed a lot since Gingrich/Clinton. By this time back then the GOP was 2-1 blamed over Dems. This time its like 60-54 with obviously many blaming both

Do you have a cite for this?

"This time its like 60-54 with obviously many blaming both"

Pew has it at 38:30, a spread of 8 points. There are 19% who blame both.

was that in a different poll? I am not sure how you can see "Republicans drop 10 points" and "Democrats drop 4 points" and say that there's no evidence of the Republicans being harmed. I thought this one was interesting because there's a data point from a month ago so the trend is more noticeable; it's true that in a vacuum both sides are getting beat up over this, just the Republicans slightly more.

AP poll all over the web today. Sorry but a 6 pt drop differential more than a year from an election is not harmed. In 96 the GOP was much further behind and even when Clinton whooped Dole, the GOP maintained in the house. Think they lost 9 seats.

fair enough. and given the redistricting, I'm sure the Democrats need to pick up a lot more ground to be able to take back the House. How much of a gap would you need to see a year from an election to think the party was harmed?

not sure...i dont think polling is the key this time. i can remember the 95/96 one like it was yesterday. the gop was getting brutalized in media and on the street. Clinton was master of exploiting. I remember interviews with National Park vendors losing their business. Obama is so ham handed. This time the media is showing Park Rangers shutting down unattended monuments and blocking scenic views. I think people in general just dont care and the visuals actually so far are worse for Obama.
