I had planned on building / finishing my new computer this weekend. So much for plans. One day pruning roses and one day unpacking and assembling my christmas present and the weekend is gone . Gone I tell you. Oh well. Now lets see. I was asked what is in the new computer.
Breaking with about 10 years of history I have an Intel CPU (quad 4). For the first time in a long while the intel chip outperformed the amd. A Nichols cpu cooler and fan and an auxillary southbridge cooling unit/fan.
4 gig of g skil ram (overclockers delight)
2 - 500 gig hard drives. seagate barracuda. One for linux one for windoze. The linux will be divided into Suse (350 gig), A maximally encrypted partition (20 gig) , (where even the filesystem itself is encrypted. I want to do some time comparisons). fedora (30 gig), a BSD (30 gig), if the nsa still has one I want a latest nsa (20 gig) and maybe a ubuntu (30 gig) for grins and giggles. I don't use ubuntu at all but it seems like it is about the most popular at the moment so I might as well take a look at it. A empty 20 gig for experimental purposes. Least you think I am nuts on this right at this moment I have 80 gig of working files in my work hard drive. I do a lot of video editing for a class and those take up a ton of room.
A TV card is also going into the critter.
On the windoze I plan on having a 32 bit win xp of 30 gig. A Win 98 of 20 gig. win xp 64 of 50 gig. A 50 gig empty (for vista maybe eventually) and the rest in a home partition for my program files and other stuff. I much prefer to put my files in a separate partition from the os. That way when I reinstall the windows os I can format and go clean without trying to worry about my files and saved game..
Video card is a nvidia 8800GT with 512 ram. I STRONGLY prefer nvidia since thier linux drivers work (unlike ati)
Saitek backlite keyboard
copperhead mouse
acer 20" digital monitor
Thats about it.
