Rookie Blue S5 - How to Circumvent Geoblocking to Stream RB on Global's Website
Since Global and ABC are airing Rookie Blue a month apart I thought I’d post one way I found to get around geoblocking so people can stream the episodes on Global’s website. Streaming on Global is incredibly simple and you don’t have to worry about getting a virus from other sketchy streaming websites.
Global posts the newest episode at midnight PST following its airing.
I use www.justfreevpn.com to set up an outside network that tricks the Internet into thinking I’m in Canada when I’m actually in California. It’s similar to setting up access to a work database if you wanted to work from home. And it's FREE!!
Directions for Windows 7:
- Open the Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
- Select “Set up a new connection or network”
- Select “Connect to a workplace” and choose the VPN Connection
- Select “Use my Internet connection (VPN)”
- Internet address: ca.justfreevpn.com
- Select “Next”
- User name: justfreevpn
- Password: 4-digit number that changes daily so don’t bother saving the password
- Select “Connect”
There are directions on the website for Mac users but I don’t have a Mac computer so I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the setup process.
NOTE: When I’m not using the VPN connection I disconnect because other websites will think you’re Canadian as well.
The VPN will allow you to stream video using Global’s website without getting that pesky “this video is restricted” message.
