Some Awesome New Games on Steam

So for my birthday this month, I ended up grabbing myself a Steam Game Card with $100 and grabbed the following games:
  • Shadow Warrior - This is an awesome remake of an old 3D Realms game that was quite juvenile in its humor and was a bit on the racist side to boot. The Lo Wang of this game is a far cry from the dirty-old-man ninja from the original. The plot involves Lo Wang on a mission to get a sword called the Nobitsura Kage for a guy named Zilla, only to wind up in the middle of a demonic invasion. He has to team up with a banished demon by the name of Hoji to survive, get the sword, and find out what the hell is going on. The sword gets a lot more focus in this game, to the point where it is Lo Wang's personal weapon, and in addition to the guns he also gets hold of, he can also acquire and wield a number of demonic Ki powers to destroy his enemies and keep himself alive. The game's main source of humor (though far from the only one -- the fortune cookies make their return, and there's plenty of "wang" jokes, though not to the crude degree of the original) is the snarking going on between Lo Wang and Hoji, but it also gets increasingly sad as things go on.
  • One Finger Death Punch - I LOVE THIS GAME. It's a two-button stick-figure martial arts asskicking game, and it is awesome. I've beaten Student mode and am currently on Master, and I've gotten a personal record of 1,881 kills on Survival, the highest I've ever gotten.
  • Torchlight II - This is a Diablo-style third-person action RPG. I've not gotten very far in it yet, but it's a very nice treat for those who want something of a change of pace from the grim demonslaying of the Diablo series, or just want a change of pace from the series in general.
  • Broforce - This is another crazy action indie game in the vein of Metal Slug. Here, you play as one of several badasses inspired by the best of 80s and 90s action cinema. Your mission is to rescue your Bros (fellow badasses), add them to your roster, kill terrorists and basically BLOW SHIT UP. Nearly everything is destructible, and if something isn't blowing up, you're doing it wrong. That said, you do have to play things smart and tactical, particularly in the later stages.
  • Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders - I played Heretic for a good period back in the 90s, but never did get my hands on the expansion. I mainly got the game (and the others below) for use with Zandronum, my primary go-to source port for Doom engine games.
  • Hexen and Deathkings of the Dark Citadel - The sequel to Heretic, I never did get very far in the game in question, nor in Hexen II, which I also got.
  • Final Doom - This game is actually a collection of two 32-level megawads that comprise the final chapter of the original Doom saga.
  • Viscera Cleanup Detail - The final game on the list is quite an interesting one. You play as a janitor who has to clean up sci-fi bases and other places that have been blasted to hell FPS-style. The game comes with two subgames based on other games: Santa's Rampage, which has you cleaning up Santa's workshop in the aftermath of Santa going postal on the elves, and Shadow Warrior, which has you cleaning up the Mizayaki Temple of the first level following Lo Wang's massacre of the Yakuzas there.
