So today is my birthday, and I am now 30 years old.
The folks took me to Pizza Hut, as normal for my birthday. There were a lot of kids present given that it was a Friday night, but surprisingly, they were quite well-behaved, with only a few of them acting up. Ended up having the meaty marinara, which I usually get when I go to Pizza Hut on my birthday. Mom told me I would have to wait four to six weeks for my new ID card to come back from the state, since I did the renewal form thing at the end of the month, which means I'll be without current ID until around April. Nice.
There's a new anime that's currently making the buzz on Danbooru and TV Tropes called Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which according to TV Tropes is a deconstruction of the Magical Girl genre, and which has gone through nine of the slated twelve episodes. Without spoiling too much, being a Magical Girl is NOT a good thing in this series, because apart from being separated from all of your friends and having to fight things out of fucking nightmare that can and will kill you horribly if you should make the slightest misstep, there's a lot of shit that Kyubey (the adorable little power-giver/evil spawn from the sixteenth level of HELL) does NOT tell those who make a contract with him to become magical girls. It's quite the dark little series, and with three of the five major protagonists currently no longer among the living, I am seriously anxious to find out what's going to happen to the remaining cast, and if they are going to find a way to Earn Their Happy Ending.
There's also a new Touhou game that's going to be coming out this year. It's called Ten Desires, and according to
aleator at
touhou_gaming , the plot involves a lot of spirits appearing, supposedly called divine spirits, that the protagonists can't leave alone and have to investigate. In addition to the usual Reimu/Marisa/Sanae trifecta that ZUN is using for his games nowadays, Youmu from Perfect Cherry Blossom has also joined the roster of playable characters, which makes sense because the general plot involves spirits and I can see Yuyu-sama being quite concerned about what's going on and sending her little gardener to get to the bottom of what's going on. Because of the focus on spirits for this game, there's been a lot of fan speculation about whether or not Mima, Reimu's original nemesis from the PC-98 Touhou games, will be making her return. I for one am crossing my fingers.
