Shopping, more Touhou, and getting set to tackle Nano again
Went shopping with the folks again. About the only thing I got other than groceries was a package of toilet paper that I saw on display as I was just getting started (since I was running out of ammunition at home). Spent close to 200 bucks and I didn't go to Barnes and Noble like that other time I was in town, so I didn't have to worry about getting overdrawn again like I did the other month (and man, was that a pain in the ass). I really need to clean this fucking apartment because inspections are coming up next month.
I've recently gotten into a new Touhou doujin series called Life Of Maid, a 4koma manga about Sakuya Izayoi (everyone's favorite knife-throwing, time-stopping maid from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil) and her life in the Scarlet Devil Mansion and having to play the mom for Remilia and Flandre Scarlet and Patchouli Knowledge. There's pretty much nothing in the way of dialogue, so I'm able to understand pretty much all of it despite the fact that I can't read Japanese for shit, but several helpful readers have added translative annotations to some of the strips. Besides Cirno (who doesn't contribute much to this particular doujin besides raising hell with Flandre and Suika), I particularly love Yuyuko (who in this particular manga is quite the bottomless pit and is SO MOE I'M GONNA DIE), Youmu (who's Sakuya's best friend in this manga and is frequently seen buying tons of food to feed Yuyuko, at one point overdrawing on her account and having to take up monster hunting to both earn some cash and some free food for Yuyuko thrown into the bargain) and especially Patchy (who in this particular manga is a hikikomori, an avid gamer, a Covert Pervert who loves yaoi, and who is fast becoming one of my favorite characters in this fandom). Hong Meiling gets the full Chew Toy treatment in this 4koma, and gets knifed and ZA WARUDO'd by Sakuya a lot (ZA WARUDO, of course, being the fan nickname for Sakuya's time stopping ability, which is quite reminiscent of Dio Brando from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure), and while she may deserve it sometimes, you can't help but feel a bit sorry for her other times.
Tomorrow starts October, meaning it's time to get ready for Nano again. After three years worth of Jason, Travis and Nora and the abortive effort that was The Red Slayer, I'm looking to do something new this time around. I'm still looking to do something in the action genre, since that's basically my niche Nano-wise. My second story involving Jason, Travis and Nora had the most energy to it, and was mainly written in yWriter 2 (I loved just about all the major fights in that story, but the warehouse sequence especially stands out due to the cutting between multiple POV characters that felt a lot like a movie -- I would love to write a sequence like that out the next time Script Frenzy rolls around). I have an entire month in which to decide what in the living hell to write about, so it's time for me to get cracking.
