RCN (at least in Framingham) dropped their remaining analogue channels this week. All channels are now digital. Anyone out there happen to know if these are clear-QAM ? The interwebs imply they are not .. but I can't find any thing authorative. RCN claims you need a cable box for each TV and doesn't mention TVs that might have QAM tuners .. this would also seem to confirm all are encoded.
A good bit peeved about this .. I watch most of my TV using a little Elgato EYE-TV encoder attached to my computer .. and it only tunes analogue. This change effectively disables my favorite TV and breaks my pattern of encoding a few favorite shows for the ipod. Damn you RCN.
I'm considering trying a a digital over-the-air antenna and possibly cancelling my cable TV service... not sure Robyn's on board with this plan though. Unsure if I really want to install an outdoor antenna ... I suppose it could be sufficiently discrete, though.
