“GO, CHARIZARD!!! GET HER!!!” Pokémon Trainer yelled, flailing wildly in the direction where Samus was descending upon Pit. The giant red lizard thrust back his shoulders and dove toward the bounty hunter, slamming into her. Samus yelped as she flew backwards, but her back slammed against a platform, knocking the wind out of her. Pit swung mercilessly at her with his double blades, which she stubbornly tired to fend off with her laser whip-she just wasn’t going to go down without a fight, was she? Pokémon Trainer thought. He didn’t want to disturb Pit from keeping her down, but they needed a final move to finish her off-ah. There was a Bob-omb to the left of the stage…if only they could get it in time-
“Charizard, Rock Smash!! Pit, get that Bob-omb if you can!!” he shouted, pointing. The angel boy whipped his head around and arched out of Samus’s reach over Charizard’s head. Carrying a giant boulder in his hands, the behemoth Pokémon thundered toward the bounty hunter. Braced for an attack, Samus flicked her laser whip out, easily destroying the rock. In annoyance, Charizard whipped his tail around and smashed Samus in the face. The girl fell backwards but, groping above her, managed to pull herself up onto the platform. However, Charizard bent his haunches and launched into flight, snapping and scratching at her as she whipped out her laser in defense. Meanwhile, Pit hovered in the air above, the Bob-omb firmly in hand, watching for his golden opportunity. Finally, Charizard took a big punch at Samus, knocking her back off her feet, and drove into another Rock Smash, this time finding its mark. When the rock shattered against her, Pit swung the Bob-omb down on her head. It exploded upon impact and-wow. She was gone. Pokémon Trainer looked up to Pit but the stage was already dissolving, and the angel boy floated down to the ground next to him as the crowd exploded into applause. Smiling broadly, Pokémon Trainer waved toward the crowd and then released Ivysaur and Squirtle, and the crowd cheered again. Bouncing up and down on his heels, Pit cheered with them. He ran over and hugged Pokémon Trainer as the crowd began to descend from the stands.
“Thanks for saving me!” he said. “I thought I was a goner…”
“It’s no problem!” Pokémon Trainer grinned. Her braids bouncing behind her, Zelda ran over and shook hands with him, smiling broadly.
“Congrats!” she exclaimed. The princess’s cheeks were flustered a bright red, and she was breathing pretty hard…the princess had gotten eliminated early from the match, having been shocked by the strength of Ivysaur’s attacks.
“Thanks! But are you okay?” Pokémon Trainer asked, furrowing his brow.
“No! I’m fine. Just a little unexpected, that’s all,” she breathed, smiling down at Ivysaur, who had eliminated her. The little bulb Pokémon shied away from her bashfully. “Aw! He’s cute.” She knelt and scratched him behind the ears.
Samus finally made her way over, having met up with her colleagues Snake and Captain Falcon. The tall woman extended her hand, trying to constrain her smile.
“Hey! Nice job,” she said. “I was really impressed.” She then looked pointedly at Captain Falcon. “I don’t think you’re going to be able to beat them.”
Captain Falcon pretended to look highly offended. “Pssh-ah-wha-I mean, we-I have Snake on my team.” He pointed to his teammate and nodded assertively. Snake rolled his eyes, shaking his head.
“He has a Charizard!” Samus said, pointing to the giant dragon.
“Oh, well, we’re screwed!” Captain Falcon said, laughing.
“Well, really nice job, Pokémon Trainer,” Samus said, shaking her head.
“Well, thanks! You were-good, too…” Pokémon Trainer avoided looking in her eyes. He felt odd complimenting the bounty hunter, who was clearly older and much more experienced than he was. Not to mention much more intimidating, especially with Solid Snake and Captain Falcon looming over her like body guards. “I’m actually…really surprised we won. I thought we were doomed when I saw we were up against you.”
She laughed. “You know, a lot of people say that…”
At long last, Link, Ike, Roy, and Marth managed to elbow their way to their friends.
“Excuse me, Samus, but I’d like to congratulate the winners,” Roy proclaimed loudly, pushing in front of Pokémon Trainer.
“What?!” Samus exclaimed, laughing. She smacked Roy upside the face.
Everyone laughed, and Pokémon Trainer felt on top of the world. Hey, maybe they could win this thing…he didn’t think he could feel much better, until Zelda unexpectedly kissed both Pit and Pokémon Trainer on the cheek.
