KAT-TUN pirates character sheet Author’s Notes
1) Although KAT-TUN are the main characters for this story, there are plenty of other JE band appearances in it.
2) I don’t actually know much about life on sea, so don’t expect 100% accuracy. ;-)
3) I started writing this before the Jin POTC rumor, so inspiration actually comes from the QoP concert. Because it's awesome. ♥
Out of everything I've written so far, this is the story I'm the most proud of. I normally don't post before I've actually got a story fully finished, but I've had this one sitting on my pc for quite some time now and after chapter 7, I couldn't make up my mind on how to continue. I realized everything up till chapter 5 could be seen as a story on its own (be it with a slightly open ending), so I decided to post at least that and see what happens.
Chapter 1
Kame stared up at the cloudless sky with a tiny smile on his lips. His chores were done for the day, so he got to do what he liked the most about this life - lying on his back on the deck, arms folded behind his head, feeling utterly relaxed.
The sound of waves clashing with the ship silenced the others’ footsteps and conversations, and just for a few minutes, he could pretend like he was all alone in the middle of the ocean. It was hard to imagine any other place could make one feel this peaceful.
Of course, Kame was always unconsciously aware that this wasn’t the life he was supposed to live. He had only been on a boat trip with his family when the others had found him eight years ago. Although he was a young teenager then, his memory of what had happened was quite blurry and mostly replaced over time by what the others told him had happened.
He descended from a high-class family, one of the few who were able to afford a trip on a luxurious tourist ship back then. A group of pirates had been nearby and noticed there would be plenty of money aboard the ship - so they had attacked, leaving nobody alive.
Nobody except him, who was sleeping at the time and probably mistaken for dead. When he woke up a few hours later, he went out on the deck only to find out the horrible truth. A rivalring group of pirates aboard the Queen of Pirates ship heard his screams and took him aboard.
Although these people were pirates just like his family’s murderers had been, somehow Kame had come to trust them. They had saved his life back then, and after that they had raised him as one of their own. Well - sort of one of their own. Because he lacked any fighting skills and attempts to teach him didn’t go very well, it was decided that he would serve meals for the others and take care of the ship.
He knew that if the pirate raid hadn’t happened, he would be looking down on this kind of job. Coming from the family he did, job positions which most people could only dream of would have been instantly available to him. But the funny thing is, he didn’t really mind. He could barely remember the part of his life he hadn’t spent on the sea. And moments like this - when he has some time to enjoy the wind playing with his hair and the water clashing underneath the ship - made everything more than worth it.

“Police!”
Kame opened his eyes to see Junno hastily running over the deck. He sat up, putting his hands on the ground behind him for support. Another boat was steadily approaching them. The name Firefly was written in elegant letters on the hull.
“Fuck! Where’s my sword?”, Jin’s irritated voice sounded from the other side of the ship.
“You won’t need it if we can be fast enough!”, Junno yelled back over his shoulder. He ran a bit further and halted next to Koki, who was holding the steering wheel as usual. Maru approached them quite calmly, while Ueda peeked out of one of the windows from the ship’s interior.
Koki put the bottle of wine down so he could use both of his hands to yank the steering wheel, changing direction as fast as he could. Kame carefully stood up and walked over to the railing. The distance to the police boat seemed to gradually increase. He grinned, knowing they had successfully avoided trouble. The Queen of Pirates was one of the faster ships in this area, so as long as they noticed other ships on time they could avoid any unwanted confrontations.
“Kame-chan?”, he suddenly heard behind him. Turning around, he noticed Ueda had opened the window near his position.
“Yes?”
“Can you come and help out for dinner?”
He smiled, appreciating the fact that Ueda was willing to do part of the work this time. He took in a last deep breath of ocean air before he opened the door and entered their little kitchen.

“This is good,” Koki said with his mouth half full. “Don’t know what it is, but make it more often.”
A few muffled giggles sounded around the table at Koki’s straightforwardness. “Actually, Ueda helped me out today”, Kame said happily. “I’m sure he deserves some of the credit.” Ueda playfully poked Kame’s shoulder. “No I don’t, it’s your recipe.”
“By the way,” Maru remembered suddenly. “Which police ship was that earlier?”
“Probably Arashi”, Junno said. “I think I saw Sho on the deck.”
“They should learn to leave us alone,” Koki chimed in. “It’s not like they can catch us anyway.”
“Not unless we let our guard down.”
Koki sniffed and brought another big spoonful of food to his mouth. Everyone was silent for awhile as they continued their meals.
“Kame”, Jin eventually broke the silence. “Come with me after dinner. You need to practise on how to defend yourself.”
The boy groaned. “You know it won’t do any good.”
“Just come. It’s about time you learn.”

Kame awkwardly clasped his fingers around the base of the sword Jin had given him. It felt unnatural for him to be holding it, and he felt tempted to just lie down and enjoy the falling dusk again. But he was aware Jin wouldn’t let him get away with something like that. To Jin, fighting skills were the most important ability one could master. Thinking of it lightly just wouldn’t cut it.
“You’re holding it all wrong. Grasp it the way I do.”
He sighed and adjusted his grip until it looked a bit like the way Jin was holding his own sword. But although he was technically holding it in what he thought was the same way now, there was still a huge difference between them. The sword, for Jin, looked like a natural part of him. Like it belonged there, in his hand as an extension of his right arm. Kame only felt awkward holding it, carefully calculating every move to make sure he wouldn’t accidentally damage anything.
“That’s better,” Jin continued regardless. “Now move it like this.“
He took one step forward, aiming the sword in front of him as if he was impaling some imaginary person. Kame frowned, feeling ridiculous as he mimicked the movement. He moved his head up to meet the amused look in Jin’s eyes.
“That’s not quite what I did, you know -“
Jin approached him, already holding out his hand to indicate where he had gone wrong. But before he could reach him, Kame felt his air supply being cut off as an arm was thrown around his neck. A fist was suddenly buried deep within his stomach, and he just barely had time to see the shocked expression on Jin’s face before everything went black.
