Author’s note: disciplinary spanking of teen boys by their father. I do not own these characters, and make no profit from this work of fiction.
"Boys, this is your brother, Adam."
Sam and Dean had been doing their chores, when they heard the approaching horses. In the cloud of dust, they had made out their father's form and his horse, but the other rider was a stranger. After dismounting, John had made his announcement; both older boys had looked at each other, and then stared in shock at their father. Dean was the first to recover enough to speak.
Grinning widely, Dean said "That's funny, Pa! The only way he could be our brother is if you...” his face fell as he realized what that meant. He could only swallow and blink furiously, his mind whirling. Sam, understanding as well, just tried to be polite.
"Hello, nice to meet you." While Adam returned the greeting, he did it with hesitancy, a sneer, and a slight bit of distain in his voice, none of which John noticed. Amazing, Sam thought, he's only said a few words and I can already tell he doesn't like us.
"Bobby at work?" John asked. The four males lived together at the edge of town, with Bobby owning a wagon repair shop in town, and John coming and going as he needed to hunt.
"Yes, sir." Sam replied. Dean was still struggling with this new information.
"Alright, then. Adam is staying with us for the summer, maybe longer, we'll see. You boys take him in the house and show him around." Sam led the way into the house, followed by Adam, with Dean lagging behind.
As he passed his father, Dean couldn't help but ask, "Sir? Why? When did this happen?"
"Your mother had been gone a few years and I met Adam's mother in a city where I killed a nest of werewolves. One of them had ripped open my arm, and she nursed me back to health. One thing led to another and we, well...." John shrugged.
Dean needed time to sort this out. "Yes, Pa," is all he said as he turned and entered the house.
The next few weeks were awkward. Adam clearly didn't want to be there, but acted quiet and respectful around John. With Sam and Dean, however, he was surly and insolent. He didn't want to do his share of the chores, and made it very clear to the other two boys. He also made some rude comments about living in 'this broken down shack', and bragged about the place he and his mother had in the city. The second day he was there, several of the dishes he was reluctantly drying 'slipped' out of his hands, and shattered. Bobby and John came to see what happened, but rather than make a scene, Dean grabbed the broom and swept up the broken pieces. After that, each day brought more and more of Adam's deliberate mischief. Sam watched and listened in frustration as Dean made excuses for Adam.
One afternoon John scolded Dean for letting things get out of hand, stating as the oldest, Dean was responsible for what went on. Grinning wickedly, Adam stepped up his efforts. After Sam cleaned the barn, Adam went in and scattered equipment everywhere. Dean's own horse threw him, which Adam found hilarious, and kept laughing even after Dean found the little pinecone under his saddle. Dean clearly wanted to pound the kid, but held back to please his father.
Seeing that problems around the house had become a regular occurrence, John pulled Dean aside on several occasions to ask if something was wrong. Each time Dean denied a problem, and without knowing the truth, John began to suspect Dean was jealous of Adam, and was acting up to get attention. The more he pressed, the more Dean denied. John asked both Sam and Adam, on their own, if they knew what was going on. Sam acted nervously, but had nothing to say. Adam acted like the innocent and devoted son, and John, though a little suspicious, believed him.
One hot July afternoon Adam, snooping in John's room, found one of John's guns. He twirled the cylinder and pretended to be a gunfighter. Dean, walking past his father's room, was horrified not only to see Adam in their father's room, but to see Adam playing with the gun.
"What the hell are you doing? Put that down! Are you crazy?" Dean stepped forward to pry the gun from Adam's hands.
"Leave me alone, I'm not hurting anything! Mind your own business!" The two wrestled with the gun and it fired, the bullet crashing harmlessly through the window, but making plenty of noise, echoing through the house, and clearly heard in the yard. John and Bobby rushed into John's room, followed by Sam.
"What in the world is going on here? Who fired that gun? Dean, report!"
"I-I found Adam in here, playing with one of your guns. I tried to take it away from him, and he wouldn't give it up. It went off and broke the window, Sir."
"Dean, you know better than to play with my things and a gun is not a toy! Adam, I thought you knew that, too! All three of you, outside! Wait on the porch for me!" Sam started to protest his having to join the others, but a look from John stopped him, and all three left in a hurry. John shook his head at Bobby, and breathed a sigh of relief that no-one had been shot, but he was angry, and was going to make sure all three boys knew it. After putting the gun safely away (hiding it in another place), he stomped onto the porch to see Dean and Sam glaring hatefully at Adam, and Adam glaring back just as badly. As soon as he saw John, however, Adam became teary-eyed.
"Papa, you know I didn't do anything! Dean is lying! I never touched your gun!" Dean gaped at the obvious lie, and Sam angrily started to rise from his chair.
"You were in my room without permission, that's enough for now. Come with me. Boys, stay here, I'll call you when I want to see you Dean." John led Adam to the barn, and closed the door behind them. "Adam, I know it hasn't been easy being in a new place. I had hoped you and the boys would get along, but it seems that hasn't happened. Come here." Adam wasn't sure what to make of this situation, and suddenly realized he was in for a spanking.
"No, Papa, please! I haven't done anything wrong! Don't spank me!"
"Adam, don't make me have to come and get you. It will only make it worse."
Adam surrendered himself, and was soon over John's lap. "I have never had to spank you before, Adam, and I hope I never have to do it again." John brought his hand down firmly on the seat of the boy's pants, making sure Adam felt the sting of each repeated smack. Adam began to cry piteously from the first swat, and John gave him only 20, still not knowing the whole truth about the events of the summer. Afterward, he hugged the boy and made sure his crying was coming to an end before releasing him to return to the porch. John called Dean in next. "Dean, I'm ashamed of you! You haven't been setting a very good example for Adam to follow. Bend over and grab the side of the stall." John reached over his head and took down a wicked-looking leather strap. Dean was familiar with this implement, and winced in anticipation. "Somebody could have been shot, and I won't put up with it." John drew his arm back fully and the strap whistled through the air before making contact, the biting sting blooming across Dean's butt. Dean hissed air in through his teeth as he steeled himself for the volley of strokes he knew was coming. John managed to get five laid down, before stopping when they heard loud voices outside the barn wall.
"Get away from there! Quit listening to Dean getting his ass beaten! Haven't you done enough! I ought to punch you in your lying mouth! You've been nothing but trouble from the day you got here!"
John was stunned to hear Adam's mocking voice reply, "Oh, shut up! If I'm forced to stay here, I'm going to have all the fun I can. It's not my fault your stupid brother keeps taking the blame when something happens! He doesn't want to disappoint his Papa. Pa will NEVER know I've been the one behind every broken dish, every mess, and I was having a fine time with that gun before Dean came in, trying to be a hero and save the day! He deserves to get the strap. So beat it! Mind your own business!"
John turned to Dean, who turned his head to avoid having John see his face. "Dean, I asked you several times if something was wrong. Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't think you would believe me if I told you, Pa. He has a way of making himself look innocent."
"Well, that's over now. I heard him confess with my own ears." He placed his hands on Dean's broadening shoulders. "I owe you an apology. You tried to have things work out to make me happy. I'm not ashamed of you, I'm proud of you, Son. But remember; leaving out information or not telling the truth when asked is the same as outright lying. So those five licks have taken care of the lying to me. You are a wonderful son, and always are a son I can depend on. Now, I need to take care of a son I'm not proud of."
John burst out the barn door to find Sam and Adam still arguing. Adam had his back to John and didn't hear his approach. "From what I just heard, I know a certain someone who most assuredly deserves the strap! Get back in that barn, Adam!" John thundered, towering over Adam, and looking very fierce. Sam tried not to look smug, but was pleased at what he was hearing.
"No, Papa, that wasn't it at all! You misunderstood!"
“Adam! Knock it off, and keep your mouth shut! I've heard all I need to hear." John dragged a protesting Adam in to the barn, slamming the door behind them. Dean had passed them on the way out, and didn't miss the look of hatred in Adam's face. John positioned Adam over his lap once again. "You fooled me into thinking you were without blame, and had Dean taking YOUR punishment! That changes NOW!" John began to apply the strap to Adam's backside, making Adam yelp, and try to flinch away. John struck over and over, making sure to blister Adam's bottom thoroughly. Adam was howling by the time John let him up, tears flowing down his face. "Never, NEVER again will I let you get away with misbehaving! You are going to have to work very hard to have me trust you again!" As mad as he was, John still made sure to hug his youngest, and let him cry out his pain. Later, Adam and John came back into the house, and John made Adam apologize to Dean for being such a troublemaker. Even though the next few weeks were trouble free, Dean and Sam were not sad to see the day come when John returned Adam to the city.
