June Update

Jun 15, 2010 01:30

It's been more of the same, really. My orthopedist gave me the all-clear last Wednesday to go at something faster than a walk on my treadmill, so I have been, and my shriveled, asthmatic lungs are hating and loving me for it. I still have a bump on my Achilles tendon, but the doc said I'd probably always have it unless I had it shaved off, which she didn't recommend I do as long as it wasn't causing me any problems. I still have to stretch it out three times a day, but it's good for my shins. As are my nice clunky orthopedic clog-shoes and more-expensive-than-I'm-used-to running shoes; the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Hun's still making me proud, working hard at work and at school. For all he does, he doesn't really complain. Not even when I ask him to mow the lawn or do the dishes or sweep the floors (I only do that when he doesn't have a lot of homework, I swear). The house and garden are coming together. I set money aside into our slush fund, and we're able to buy things like a couple of chairs for the living room. We planted our baby fig and orange trees in the front yard, and hopefully they'll give us fruit next year. The worst part was deciding where to plant them--somewhere where they wouldn't destroy any utilities or block views . . . I tried to maintain the responsible priorities. Hun won a fancy schmancy new laptop from a contest they had for students, so he let me have his old laptop, and now I try to use two computers at once. Not that any two things are so important that I have to work on them both at the same time. I just like being busy. Or getting things done. Or just doing things. As I recently told my friend happinesstogo in her LJ, I don't remember the last time I was bored. Certainly not since I started trying to learn how to use two computers at once. I still make time to go off and write, read, make art (I just sold a block print to a customer in Australia--crazy!), garden, be with Hun, work out, cook, eat, see friends, listen to poetry, work, play with the pets, etc., so that's good. It's all good. More of the same, like I said. =D Life is good, and I'm grateful for it!

1. Flowers to welcome June (the house is doing well)

2. Baby eggplant are cute (the garden is doing well)

3. Produce can't get any fresher than this (the harvests are lovely)

4. Cooking food I grow is awesome (so is not rushing to try to buy squash blossoms from the farmers' market before they sell out)

5. There is an endless supply of recipes to test (and thankfully, good reasons and friends to bake for)

6. And old favorites to revisit (and fabulous friends' housewarming parties where I can gift some truffles)

7. Scotch the Dog is still the sweetest (she watched our guests walk to their cars and drive away safe and sound)

8. Yarny crafternoons are wonderful (a bunch of crafty PHUCsters came to my house to build a baby blanket for our very pregnant friend--there are about 40 weeks of pregnancy behind that blanket, maybe just shy of 2 or 3 days)

9. Forgot to post these in my last update (promise/commitment/lovey-dovey rings, of sorts: his says "Hun since 2006" and mine says "Loving Hun since 06" )

10. Two words: sausage cat (he really has lost a lot of weight since we adopted him--it's mostly casing now. also, his tail watches you wherever you are in the room, even if the cat's eyes are closed)
