She pressed a button and music floated out from the speakers in the wall. She wiggled and he smiled. She caught that smile and moved toward him.
"What are you doing, Heidi?" But she didn't answer him, just bounced her shoulders and pressed her hands into the dress covering her thighs. Dipping her hips seductively, she drew her body across the floor, closer.
" It's been so long since we've danced together." Her voice was a purr.
"What are you talking about. I danced with you every time we go out together." His eyes never veered from the book in his hands, it was hard, but he could do it.
"That's not what I mean, Nathan. You never dance with me anymore. It's been ages ..."
"Oh, I think you're doing a pretty good job of that yourself, actually. You don't need me stepping on you toes."
"You were always the best dancer I ever knew."
Gabriel allowed himself a laugh as he brought his book closer to his face, obstructing his view of Nathan's wife. His wife, he corrected. He felt Heidi move closer and pulled the book higher, effectively hiding his face (Nathan's face) from her. The music flowed smoothly over the air and he found himself nodding along. His mouth quirked when he felt, first fingers, then palms, stroking at his legs. He swallowed hard and gripped his book tighter.
Despite the fact that he had read the same line at least five times, he thought he did a pretty good job putting up the front. But then her nails dug into his thighs, and the guise was all bur forgotten when a bit of her hair peeked out at the bottom of his book. He gasped when it fell across his lap.
Ever since she decided to let her hair grow, it had been the cause of many a distraction, many a whimsical daydream. His hands began to shake in front of him. She smiled up at him, lifting one hand to pull the book away from him. Setting it on the small table next to the chair, she leaned over and pulled him up into her arms. He stiffened -in more ways than one- against her as she slid her body against his.
"I see you haven't forgotten me." She breathed against his cheek, as his arms came around her.
His movements didn't exactly match the music, but Heidi hadn't complained and that was good enough for him. For now. He wrapped his fingers in her hair and smiled against her scalp.
"Never."
