Do check your luggage weight. You can always get your parents to send you things in the mail later. You can pay for some overweight luggage at the airport too, but make SURE that no one bag has more then 32kg in it. It's against the law to make Aussie baggage handlers pick up bags that weigh more then 32kg. If a bag you have is over 30kg, split it into two bags.
Uhm. Banks are pretty much all the same, service and safety wise. Interest rates and conditions of applications vary from bank to bank and account to account. All the major banks in Australia have very good credit ratings. Commonwealth, Westpack, St George, ANZ. Citibank is an international bank... there aren't many ATMs for it around.
Transfer your money over in one hit - most banks only charge a one off fee, no matter how much you send, so it's much better to transfer overseas in a big whack rather then little bits at a time. Also, don't exchange money at the airport, the exchange rates are always worse there.
Mobile phones... if you're going to be here a while, you can do a one year plan. The phone is then usually free, yoiu just have to pay for the monthly fees. You can get cap-plans as well, so you can make a large amount of calls for a set amount. If you plan to call home often, I'd go with a cap plan as it's more value for money. The major providers are Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone/Hutchington (they just merged). I reccomend probably Optus, for good cap plans.

Thank you for the tips :D I'm in the middle of lessening my things now...
I heard that the weight limit for a student is 30kg, however, it's not printed on the ticket. How do they know that my allowed limit is 30kg? I need to know this one...
Thanks anyway :D

I want to take mine, but my parents insisted on bringing the new one, in case it gets confiscated. I was thinking "why would they do that?" but just to be safe, I want to know...
I'd be glad if you could answer me :3
