Finally, he is gone! As I was saying, after I accepted the offer to work with the church,I wsa allowed to return to my home and gather my things. They informed me that there was some sort of trouble in Eastern Europe, something that the church needed to be involved in. I was extremely disappointed to hear that I would have to be wisked away to some distant land, but I was happy to be alive. They said that my knowledge of the "Black Arts" (How degrading and egotistical) could be of use, as they were dealing with apparently unnatural creatures. Now, my first reaction to this was to recoil in disgust, but due to my rather strong inclination towards self-preservation, I accepted with a most gracious face. Apparently, there was an epidemic in Poland, Romaina, and the countries inhabited by the ethnic Slavs caused by a creature that they call an Upir, and what we have taken to call a Vampire. This creature is some sort of revnant, according to local supersition, and so the church immediately considers me to be an expert. Well, sufficed to say, I played along despite never hearing of one of the creatures before. According to waht the Church knows, they are reanimated corpses of the deceased, apparetnly created with contact by another vampire. There are several theories of where and why these creatures originated, from them being the spirits of the sinful to those unlucky enough to have an animal leap over thier unburied body. That is one of the main things we were sent here to investigate.
Anyway, We have been here in Castle Dracula for almost an entire day,looking at some old texts and generally waiting for the morrow to come. At least I have been looking through some old texts. The Lord only knows where Markus has been. I have been reading the histories of the man who once ruled here, Vlad Tepes, or Vlad the Impaler. It seems that he was a rather violent man indeed; one doesn't get the Pseudonym "Impaler" attached to thier real name for nothing, I suppose. Now I hope to sneak a peek at some of my Alchemical formulas before I go to bed.
