(delayed response... we've been out of town!)

Well, the burning-tingling-numbness didn't start until April of 2002. First my left thumb, then eventually everything from the neck down. After sixty million blood tests, MRIs and a spinal tap, they found a lesion on the myelin sheath in my cervical spine. They decided it was probably multiple sclerosis and wanted to put me on the Big Bad Nasty Shots and some steroids... but the laundry list of side-effects was scary. After some research, I found that some people have luck with diet modification... and that seemed a much better approach to try. I've had pretty good results, though my hands don't ever have full feeling. When I do eat wheat and/or dairy, I notice immediately that my feet, legs and sometimes my arms start in with the burning-tingling-numbness... so it's good motivation to stay away from it. ;) I think I'm just allergic enough that it causes inflammation that aggravates the nerves around the scar tissue from the lesion.

As far as my kids go, well I am hoping they grow out of their intolerances. Max is already less affected than he was a couple of years ago, though we still err on the side of caution. Khai is more sensitive, but who knows... he might be able to eat normally someday, too. :) In the end I just feel lucky-- they are pretty easy changes to make once you get used it.

And THAT is the end of the long and rambly reply!

MS- wow, that sucks! But I'm glad you've been able to avoid those medicines and all. They do have some really scary side effects. Sometimes you have to wonder if the side effects are worse than the original thing.

I've heard kids grow out of stuff like that, so I hope they do. Never to have REAL ice cream - gasp! The horror of it! :P Actually some of that soy stuff is ok.
