Tonight I will get to meet my Lower House candidates and I may get to ask them (a) question(s) about their policies.
So... What should I ask? Help me workshop this...
Here are my thoughts so far...
To the ALP Candidate: Legislation for the Internet Filter has not been passed by the Australian parliament, however the Dept of Broadband, Communication and the Digital Economy has been developing this project for some time. Can you please explain why the Government has devoted funding, manpower and other resources to a project when the legislation was rejected?
To the NLP Candidate: I received a brochure from your office on Border Security, which stated that you would force Refugee to "work for payments" while they were in Detension Centres. Seeing as the refugees can't leave the facility and won't have a choice about this work, can you please explain how your policy differs from slavery.
To All Candidates: Can you please articulate your Party's policy regarding pro-choice, what your own stance on this is, and how you will act as this electorate's voice regarding all legislation relating to this issue.
To All Candidates: The media places a large emphasis on Cabinet members and the policies they create for their portfolio. Regardless of who gains control of the Lower House, how will you represent us and ensure that our voices are heard if you are not offered a Cabinet/Ministerial Office?
To All Candidates: How will your Party's legilsation towards Asylum Seekers ensure that they are treated ethically and humanely while they await a Protection Visa.
(this is my favourite so far)
