Okay, this is cool. I didn't think I would be able to post during my vacation, but here is my golden opportunity. I looked at my friends page, and have no idea where to begin, so I've decided not to until I return home and have more spare time.
Sooo. For those of you who don't know already, I'm in Canada, visiting the in-laws. The drive up was 10 hours of tedious nothingness, but as we entered Detroit I thought about Dana and how I wished we could stop and visit her. Then I saw this billboard that said "dana.com" with a blonde chick on it. Odd.
So we arrived in Toronto around 4 am, and woke up Chris's grandparents. We caught up with them for an hour or so, then went to bed. At his grandparents house, it's three meals a day. It's "can I get you a coffee? Would you like some toast?" until you finally agree to be served something. We call them Memere and Pepere, because they're a french family and that's the way it is.
A day or two after we arrived, his uncle Robert and his aunt Lena dropped by to say hello. They're the trendy type, with the poodle who is their baby and the discussions about film and literature. I enjoy them, and tire of them at the same time, but never repeat that. They don't buy Christmas presents, too materialistic, but we got them all something anyways. Bah to them if they don't like it.
On Monday we packed up again and went to his Aunt Gisele's house. This woman has a massive home. 3and1/2 baths, 4 bedrooms, huge winding staircase in the front foyer. Two fully stocked refrigerators,at your disposal 24/7. Liqour cabinet too.
So we're set up in the basement, where a family of four could live comfortably.
Today I took a bath in one of those tubs you see in the movies, a soaking tub she called it. The kind the size of a small boat, that the sides go up past your shoulders. Heaven.
These people are insane. They talk and play cards and love you THERE IS NO DYSFUNCTION. not a trace, and i look for it. They let you sleep till two in the afternoon and don't bitch about it, they say "So did you have a good rest? Do you want something to eat?" Unreal. No pent up resentment, no wanting to hide in the living room under a blanket until the festivities end. YOu're family, even if you are an American.
Canadian news is amazing. It's basically our news, only without bias or fear instilling undertones. They have opinions about our election....do you know who the prime minister of Canada is....did you think they had a president?
Tomorrow I'm going shopping with Gisele. This woman is high class, and a strong independent person. She inspires me, and at the same time makes me feel insecure, which is all me, because she wouldn't ever even look at me sideways, because I don't know why...this whole family loving me is unsettling. I suppose you have to have beaten me in order for me to feel comfortable .
Gisele's husband, John, is hilarious. Not the witty, smart funny, but the random "what the hell is he talking about" funny.
When you come into a persons house here, you do two things. Take off your shoes, and kiss them on the cheeks. It's hard for me, because I'm not a physically affectionate person, but it's kind of fun, because you get to see who air kisses and who plants one closest to your mouth. The males in the family are in the lead.
Anyways, I have to get to bed now, it's almost 6am. Talk to ya all later.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
Oh. Also, I've gained three pounds and have tons of chocolate, the expensive kind, at my finger tips. And butter tarts. Life is sooooo good.
