It's hard to get into the Christmas spirit when there's no snow on the ground.
At least, that's what I thought until toward the end of the first Christmas Eve service I joined the rest of the congregation in singing, "Silent Night" with candles lit and the lights off in the sanctuary. There's something incredibly uniting about celebrating the Christ Child in a Church, even if you don't know that many of the people there. I guess there's something naturally holy about that song.
And yes, I did resist the urge to say to some of the parishioners whom I had never seen before, "see you next year."
