So, I haven't posted in forever, but I have to tell this story!
Thursday night, my best friend was really upset and wanted to go out to a local club to meet people and cheer up. It had been raining on and off all day, but we managed to make it there and stay fairly dry. We had a decent time. We had never been on 80's night before. After a while, we decided to skip out and get IHOP. The rain had picked up. We ran to her car and began heading towards the restaurant of delicious breakfast foods, when we came up upon some high water...
We looked at the black water for a minute. There was no way to turn around. We could have tried to dried in reverse back to a place that we could turn, but instead we attempted to drive through the water. Most of the way through it, we stalled out. The water was too high to open the door. A taxi driver who was also stalled out came over to help push the car. My friend rolled down the window and stepped into the water, which came up over her knees. She and the cabby pushed the car uphill, while I steered. (This is the closest to driving that I have ever been.) When they got the car higher, I stepped out and pushed too. My friend waited and tried to start her car. No luck. Her phone began acting up, as we tried to call people for help. So, there we were stranded in Norfolk at 1am... A friend of ours said that he would pick us up, if we needed it. We waited and tried her car again, still no luck. Cars zoomed past in the opposite direction and a wave of water taller than us splashed down on us. The rain stopped, but the car still did not start. The cabby got his taxi towed. My friend and I decided to try to push her car further up the slope and out of the way. Right as we started, a homeless guy came over to help. So this homeless guy and I were right up against each other pushing the car from the back, while my friend pushed and steered. The homeless guy waved down a pizza delivery truck. They put a pizza bag between both vehicles and pushed us up the slope and into the nearest parking lot. She and I each gave the homeless guy $5. We then tried the car again. It was reallt close to starting, but wasn't going to be safe to drive. Our guy friend picked us up and took us home; we got home around 2:15am. They went back to her car the next day and bought it a new air filter. It's fine now...WHAT A NIGHT!
