I got back from Vancouver last Friday but I never did write about my trip.
I flew down on October third at seven in the morning, and since the sun wasn't going to come up until 8:30 or so I got to watch the sun rise over the mountain ranges. Beautiful.
My dad met me at the airport; Steven (my brother) had a sore throat and Mom was still at work. On the way home we stopped at Grandma's house to have breakfast with her and Uncle Graham.
Once home, I greeted the dogs and cats, my mom and my brother, and enjoyed coffee and home grown grapes... then Steve and I went and played Zombie Apocalypse on his PS3. The day was spent just sort of hanging out and catching up.
On Sunday, we had a family barbeque with some of Dad's family; my Oma and Opa, Aunt and Uncle, my cousins, and my Great Uncle Zig, who I haven't seen in so long I barely recognized him. It was pretty awesome, with home made pies and salads... Plus, I got to subject the cousins to Monty Python's Holy Grail while wearing my Tim the Enchanter hat.
The rest of the week consisted of horseback riding through Campbell Valley Park (I hadn't ridden in two years so my legs still hurt after I got back to Whitehorse!), went to the pool with my mom (mostly for the hot tub since we hurt), went to a martial arts class and then Pizza with my old swordfighting friends, going to see the movie Surrogates with my mom and brother (it's interesting but not awesime), shopping for things I can't find here, and going to awesome restaurants that I don't have here!
I was supposed to get another tattoo and a conch punch. Didn't happen. I emailed my tattoo artist a month ago with what I wanted done, and she said it was doable. When I didn't hear from her in a while, I messaged her again, and she said she was sorry for not getting back to me, but she'd go in to work the next day and book an appointment for me.
I never heard from her again. I even messaged her once I got down here to say, "Hey, I'm here now, can you fit me in?" and I never heard back. I could have called, but it isn't that critical to me that it be done THAT WEEK so I figured, if she doesn't want my hundred dollars or so, fine. I bought an awesome six piece luggage set that was marked down from $249 to $99 instead. Now I have pink suitcases, yo.
I did chat on the phone with my friend Matt a few times (he's the one who offered me the apprenticeship) and that was fun. He's training another piercer now, but the chances are good that in one year when I go back he'll still want to train me, too. I couldn't get into Richmond to get any work done by him. We were going to hang out one night for coffee, but then he decided to stay in Vancouver with his girlfriend; that's okay. He's now apprenticing to be a tattoo artist himself (holy crap do-everything man much?) and that's why he's training replacement piercers.
Okay, anyways, it was a good trip. But as of yesterday I have my brother's sore throat and am cranky.
I came back and Siebert was even skinnier than he was when I left; my coworker was feeding him but I guess he was stressed. He's eating again now, though he's still painfully thin. The vet doesn't know what's up so all I can do is keep trying different high-calorie foods on him.
*sigh*
And I've now placed an ad in the paper for a new room mate. Eunhee is in Charlottetown and happy to be there, with no plans to return. :(
