I officially have $5,000 in my savings account. Now, I know this isn't a lot. But for little old me it's the most I've ever accumulated at one time.
This is half due to Christmas money (I was good! Nearly all of it went into savings!) and half due to some happy windfalls: I got my GST rebate, was mysteriously credited $200 to my Northwestel account, and got overtime on my last pay cheque.
I've also got my tax package in the mail, so as soon as I get my T4 I can do my taxes and save THAT money, too.
Unfortunately I've put plans to buy a house on the backburner; I've decided that while I could afford a trailer, padrent and a car, I would NOT be able to afford to heat the trailer with oil costing $300 a month (averages from my friend's trailers).
This really bothers me. When I first said that I wanted to buy a house, Mom and Dad were all for it, but Grandma was cautious, saying I should wait until I'm "settled down" (Grandmaspeak for Married). And I'm thinking maybe Grandma was right. I can't afford my own place on a single income, and it really bothers me.
