Walking in a winter wonderland...

Nov 19, 2008 10:32

The temperature hasn't come above freezing for a couple of weeks, meaning it will likely stay colder than -10 for the next five months or so.

The mornings are brilliantly beautiful. Hoarfrost coats every surface with ice crystals, making the walk to work look like a stroll through a salt crystal garden. Everything is pure and white, giving the impression of living inside a porcelain-and-doily universe...

Some days I can't tell if it's snowing, or if it's just frost blowing off of trees and roofs. I hunch into the wind as I near the library, and a gust blows a generous helping of ice onto my clothes: My disguise is complete, and I walk the rest of the way to work as a white figure, part of the winter landscape.

I think these days are even more beautiful than the days when it's actually snowing.
