So, some of you guys probably know I'm an avid reader of the webcomic
Penny Arcade. In fact, among my RL friends, my super power is to randomly bring up a Penny Arcade strip relevant to the topic at hand by saying: "That reminds me of a Penny Arcade strip..."
Anyways, Penny Arcade is a webcomic that primarily caters to gamers. And in 2003 its creators, Mike "Gabe" Krahulik and Jerry "Tycho" Holkins, got sick of the media scapegoating videogames as the primary culprit responsible for school shootings and youth violence in general, and decided to do something to show the world that gamers are good people. They started
Child's Play, a charity through which geeks and gamers can buy toys, crafts, story books, DVDs, and videogames for children who are in long-term hospital care. This is now a service they provide together with Amazon.com, who puts up wishlists of participating hospitals from which you can make your purchase directly.
TL;DR? Go to
http://www.childsplaycharity.org/ and buy some $2.00 crayons for some sick kids so they can doodle instead of thinking about their upcoming surgery. Because it's a nice thing to do.
