Uhm, okie dokie. So.
Hunter Show on Sunday. He came up lame.
I didn't show. I knew it wasn't going to end up well.
He looked ok-ish to me in the morning, but I didn't notice much, as I was also watching five other horses being shown, as well as him. But I definately noticed it a lot more in the flat classes, since I got to see him trot a lot more. Especially when he barely got any of his leads as well. =/
I felt so bad for him, but he was such a good boy for continuing to do what was asked of him, even though he was in pain.
All day on Saturday, he looked good, he was nice and sound, but I knew it probably wasn't going to last. Everyone kept convincing me to show him, because he looked fine, and no one thought he was going to have a problem on Sunday, but I stuck with it, and I continued to say no, because I just didn't feel he was ready, and that he was still hurting. And then, what happens on Sunday? He's lame, and looks awful.
Someone from EquiChat, who was involved with helping run the show I guess, talked to me and said that the judge came up to her and said she noticed that Justin looked really lame, and they all felt really bad watching him go around the ring lame like that.
=/
I can't say it's anyone fault though, for not taking him out when he came up lame. Rachel is only 10, and I'm not quite sure she knows how to spot or feel a horse that's lame yet. Deana, was riding in the same classes as Rachel, with her mare, so she couldn't have noticed how he looked, because she was focused on showing her own horse. And my trainer was in the warmup ring the whole time, but she said she caught the last few seconds of the last flat class, and she noticed he looked really lame, and didn't get any of his leads, but it was already too late to pull him out becuase the class was over and done with.
Ugh. I feel so bad for my poor guy. We're still hoping it's his shoes though, and I guess that's what the vet thinks it is, and he's getting his shoes off today! Yay! So hopefully, this will be the end of his problems, because I have no other idea what it could possibly be. I'm going out to see him this Friday, so it'll be after he gets his shoes off, and hopefully he'll look better than he has. =/
