New Character Background Musings

So in the past few weeks, our gaming network of friends are bringing three new games into the mix.  One of those is Apocalypse, of which I have offered to ST for in hopes of it getting off the ground.  I am unconvinced that I'll get enough solid players and a solid schedule position for it that will allow the game to happen this chronicle, but I'm going to give it a fighting shot.  I've got what I think is a cool setting and a cool plot .. but whether we can make people interested in it with almost no time slots available, well..we'll see.

The other two games starting up are non-MES related.  Dresden Files for tabletop and a Lost Horizons troupe game for Masquerade.

For Lost Horizons, I'm making a Malkavian.  Granted, its not absolutely guaranteed that I will get to play said Malkavian, as they are doing clan caps in an effort to make even numbers of all clans, but I've put my name in the hat really really early and in asking the head honcho guy how likely it is I get to play my Malk.. he said something like, oh, 99.99%.  So I should be good :)  My concept is kinda fun.  She received visions as a mortal, so although they were odd as she was growing up, now they are nothing new to her.  Once she was embraced, her visions quickly grew worse.  Instead of random, she now got them All The Time.  She finally nailed down that each time she drank of a mortal, she would drink in more than just their blood, but a little of them as well, a little of their soul.  Their thoughts would then plague her until her own will overpowered them again.  But it wasn't just feeding that did it.. sometimes just touching another individual led to visions she wasn't prepared for.  They overwhelmed her at every turn.  Eventually, she became scared of anyone and everyone touching her.  She has learned to cope, somewhat, in the years since.  She covers her skin completely as much as she can and keeps everyone at a distance from her as much as possible.  She does her absolute best to keep a bubble of space around her that is sacrosanct from anyone else.  And she has to steel herself up to break that bubble and force herself every time she has to feed.  Its a difficult existence, and she hopes the visions are inevitably worth it.

And so far, at least one of them, has proven most beneficial.  She had one vision of a mortal soldier being betrayed and his unit lost, and somehow a connection between losing this soldier unit and herself.  She then knew that this soldier must be saved.  She told members of her city, but they believed her crazy.  She told her Sire, who understood completely, and together they sought to locate and protect the soldier.  Calling upon the aid of her Sire's ally, a member of Clan Brujah who had ties with the military, they tracked down the unit.  Their efforts discovered a much deeper plot, in the end.  In their efforts to save the soldier unit, they discovered an infernal vampire was taking advantage of the mortals' blind hate and was decimating the troops as they traveled to the deserts to seek out Osama Bin Laden.  They saved most of the unit, but the soldier she had seen in her vision lay dying.  Her Sire's Brujah ally immediately fell to his side and embraced him as his last dying breath escaped his lungs.  Eventually, together, they saw the infernalist stopped and destroyed, the Masquerade protected, and the soldiers saved.  And since, the newly embraced Brujah has attached himself to her, believing completely in her vision that saved his life, and together they maneuver through politics and machinations of Kindred society.  She has learned to trust this Brujah in her own time, as well, letting him and only him within her bubble.

That's the general gist of what I have for my Malkavian so far.  I still really really need to decide what her mortal story was besides "she had visions".  I need to decide how she handled the visions, her age when embraced, where she was from and what she did as a mortal...  All stuff I'm still considering.

For Dresden Files, I'm making an Apprentice Wizard.  I don't have much on her yet, still need to discern some more ideas.  But, I think I'm going to have her be the daughter of a very well known, very strong wizard from the White Council.  Somehow, that parent either died, disappeared, or boarded off my character for training elsewhere.  Now that my character's talents are starting to show, she is being trained by some traditionalist wizard that she despises.  She's rebellious and wanting to use her talents much faster than her traditionalist wizard is training her, so she sneaks out to try to help her friends without his finding out.  But rather than fully running away, she does return to continue her begrudgingly slow training.. until she can find a more appropriate trainer that she can believe in.  Its a start for a story, at least.
