I have the bestest dad in the world. I helped, but he basically built this rope bed for me yesterday. The main pieces roll up into a bundle maybe 8 x 8 x 80; then you just have to carry the four legs and the bolts for the legs.
Cost = $60. The ropes were the most expensive part.
Time invested = 30 minutes in Home Depot and maybe 4 hours of construction.
Now I just have to get a mattress for it. I plan on one or two layers of cardboard to mask the bumps caused by the rope crossings. Then a small, cheap rug. Then probably a twin-sized futon mattress. No more air mattress that I have to top off every night!
Flip chart paper comes in big, flat cardboard boxes, so I'll just grab one or two from work. They'd only get thrown out otherwise...
I might get one more 2 x 6 and make two legs that are 2 inches longer than the original 4. I'm usually camped on an incline in the Tir Thalor camp. This is going to be so AWESOME! A pretty much period-style bed, with a ton of under-bed storage space, that doesn't take up my entire tent. Yes, it's smaller than I would like - I like to sprawl in a full-sized bed for camping - but it's going to work 1000% better than what I had last year. This is SO COOL!

And I got another belt halfway woven last night, so Pennsic preparations are moving right along! 19 more days...
