Bento a Go-Go

So... money's tight.

I haven't worked since November (and believe you me, I am _so_ over my own private hiatus, thanks). I start (cross finger/knock wood/spin three times/insert your good luck-begging ritual here) my new job next Friday.

**Off-Topic Digression (OTD)! So far, I do _not_ have TB! Yay me! Watch this space next week at this time after I've had round 2 to ensure that I did not catch the TB in these 2-3 intervening days!

One of the things I tend to spend too much on is lunches out when I'm working. From what I understand, this new job is going to be much like the last: too many hours, too little pay (for the work), running around a lot, rushed meals on the go fastfastfast.

To counteract my tendency to buy cheap quick shit to eat duting the day, I've been getting into the idea of bentos/tiffins/laptop lunchboxes.

If I do these, I'll save money AND it will be much healthier for me. (Baker's Mama Meal vs. veggies, fruit, a little bit of chocolate, a hot entree? Hello! Ass of Steel! Here I come!)

bentolunch has some of the coolest and most fun looking food I have ever seen.
Seriously.
These people make lunch an art form.
I figure, if my food is really fun and appealing to look at, and I have a variety of foods both hot and cold, I'll not eat out so much.

Soooooo, This last Wednesday I went out to Little Tokyo to get some starter bento supplies.

This is what I got for just over $50 bucks:

I couldn't wait to play with the vegetable and cookie cutters, so I made my brother come over for lunch and practiced on him. I ate one too! I'm not _that_ mean. ;-p
I love these trays I picked up at a yard sale - they're perfect for practice bento-ing.

I am thrilled to report that my vegetable-hating and fresh food-maligning brother actually ate all of the carrots and cucumber I served him.
I don't care if it was just so he could eat the See's chocolate with a clear conscience.

Now, I can't wait to start making my little lunchboxes to take to my new job.

Yes. I'm an obsessive little freak.
Yes I am.
