songs of sunset

May 26, 2008 20:48

Walking back from the grocery store, I chanced to look up
And happened upon a sky
Glowing and infinite, with clouds plopped
Like cream
Onto its surface. Amid these towers of light,
Airy indulgence, the sun played,
Delicate and generous.
A single lonely cry nudged the air as a seagull
Poetically
Circled some unresponsive wave,
No doubt. But the song remained in harmony,
Unruffled. Its story was
Celestial, untarnished, and complete.

I sighed, in youthful admiration, and walked homeward
Filled with vegetables, freedom, and hope.

And the whales, far
Below, sang the dirge
Of the gull and the wave as the sun
Sank ever closer to their arms,
And darkness, and peace.
