The last game at Giants Stadium

Dec 23, 2009 22:30

Delayed post is delayed, been busy as hell and away from internet.

Ok, so they didn't win, but it was still a fun time. We sat in the second level, which is covered by upper deck, meaning we were relatively dry and it stopped raining at gametime anyway. Plus taking the shuttle meant we didn't have to deal with post game traffic on Rt 3 (but we got stuck on 46 going home, we didn't get back until around 1).

The best was the atmosphere. I was walking around trying to find jerseys that weren't XXL (since they were cheaper there than elsewhere), and I met a very well dressed santa on the escalador.
Giants hat Santa: What do you want for Christmas young lady?
Me: How about another Superbowl ring?
Santa: Hohoho, I think I can work something out.
Eagles fan behind me: What about a ring for us?
Santa: No, you guys have been naughty. Santa remembers when you booed him and threw snowballs at him.
All the trash talk was in good spirits, and for the most part, people where just happy to be there, not matter who you rooted for, though I made sure to steer clear of the drunkest Eagles fans.

I got myself a Boss jersey since I already had a Manning one and that way "I'M DA BOSS", hehehe.

We sat in front of a row of seasoned stadium goers and next to another Eagles/Giants couple, who kept cracking up at the crazy stuff we'd do, like I pulled his hat over his face when he tried to rub a fumble in my face, or I tried to console him when Big Blue pulled ahead by saying "well, at least Dallas lost this week right?" The guys behind us said "at least you have the Phillies, oh wait!" The guys behind us jokingly asked "why you with a guy in a Philly jersey?" I told him it was because I bought it for him for Christmas, and he got me A SIGNED ELI MANNING PORTRAIT (complete with the caption "the great escape" from the Superbowl). He laughed and said "could be worse, my daughter is dating a Patriots fan." The two in front of us were quite drunk, but in a funny way, and the enjoyed keeping our section rallied.

The bad thing, Commie can be a bit of a killjoy sometimes. He refused to wear the Eagles jersey I got him for Christmas at first, claiming he would feel "silly." I brought it with me because I knew he'd change his mind. Plus he was so bitchy about getting there (Do I really need to tell you where to park in a parking lot?). Once the game got going he lightened up, but even afterward he refused to listen to me about where to get the bus (sure don't listen to the person who's been going there for years). I'm rather glad he's not coming to Katsucon, he's not the best traveling company sometimes.

I'm sad to see the stadium close, it has a lot of memories for me, as my uncle and dad used to take me to games when I was younger. I just hope the new one doesn't become the jumbotron, cage-dancer infested embarrassment that Dallas opened this year.
