Brief Concert Report - Day 1 (23/7, Thursday)
Yokohama Arena
My friend and I attended the first day of HSJ’s Summer 2009 concert, “Tengoku.” Here are some of the highlights from that day. I tried to avoid repeating other information like the song playlist and stage description, because other members of the community wrote more detailed con reports….
My friend and I each only studied Japanese for one year, so we only got the basic ideas from the MC portions. Gomen ne!
· I spotted around 20 other fanboys - mostly late middle school or early high school, although some were older. I’m sure there were more though.
· There were 3 separate goods lines - one for the pamphlet, bags, and tumbler, one for the uchiwas/clear files/seals, and one for the penlights, bags and shirt.
· We stood for 2 hours in the pouring rain waiting to enter. It was worth it though!!
· We sat near the right side of the stage, pretty close to the walkways.
· <3 Chinen and Yuto’s song where Yuto was tap dancing.
· Keito’s solo was awesome. All I remember is “Babylon” and him entering a cage, only to have magic happen and Yuya appear in his place.
· Why was Ryutaro’s solo only dancing?
· MC portion:
o Before the song led by Kei, they played a word game where they had to name countries. Chinen lost.
o They talked about Yabu’s new drama and about becoming an adult.
o Yabu and Hikaru spoke a lot about Yabu’s upcoming 20th birthday and how he will be an adult, the first one out of their group.
o Yabu mentioned how he feels nervous when his parents come to see him perform in concert, but also how he feels proud when they do attend.
o Ryosuke talked about the SP for 24 Jikan with “Nishikido-kun.”
o Apparently, Yabu got a phone call from Hikaru about something one night to talk about the next day.
o Hikaru also spoke about his drama with “Takizawa-san,” Orthos Inu.
· The audience penlight movement was awesome during the chorus of “Mayonaka no Shadow Boy.” Everyone did the moves!
· I waved directly at one of the Johnny’s Jrs. And he made direct eye contact with me and waved back!!! <3!!!
· Yabu asked everyone to quiet down before they all yelled “Minna daisuki!”
· At the end, after the others had left, Ryosuke stayed behind and said, “Minna, I love you.” The crowd went wild.
· They performed “Born in the Earth” at the beginning and end.
· Ryutaro wore the shirt “Hung like a bull” again towards the end.
· “Your Seed” was the encore song and after they bowed, they came back out one last time to individually bow and thank us again. We were sad that they didn’t do the dance moves from the video.
