Tatsuya often talks to Akemi Homura. His mother told him that she saw him playing in the park and stopped to talk to him; he believes Homura-neesan is kind enough to do that. What he doesn't understand is why she keeps talking to him.
It doesn't matter. She's like the older sister he never had, and he can chat with her about anything in his life.
"I'm going to be an older brother."
She smiles at him. "That's nice. You'll have company."
Homura's so tall and pretty and able to lean on the top bar of the railings while Tatsuya just dangles from it. He wishes he wasn't just 10. He kicks at the top bar. "Yeah, I guess."
"You don't want a younger sibling to play with?"
"Maybe." Homura-neesan doesn't push, which is so nice of her that Tatsuya admits. "I wish the baby was a girl. Mom says if it's a girl she'll name it Madoka."
Homura-neesan goes so still that Tatsuya wonders if he said something wrong. He's just thinking of how to apologise when Homura crouches down and hugs him. "I miss her too," she says.
Homura smells really nice and she's very pretty, but Tatsuya is too old for hugs and imaginary friends and he can't help but start fidgeting when the hug goes on for too long. She releases him before he gets more embarrassed, and is smiling again when he can see her face.
"Do you want to go for ice cream?" she asks.
"Yeah!" Tatsuya grabs her hand, and leads the way.
