Guys, my eyes may pop out of my head at some point in the future, but I THINK IT WILL BE WORTH IT.
I may have (accidentally) got myself into 4 new series. They are, in no particular order:
1) Korra Korra Korra KORRA
2) Moretsu Pirates
3) Nodame Cantabile
4) Homestuck
Each of those deserves a post on its own but I have been really ridiculous about them all! It took me an entire day to watch Korra, given how often I was pausing to squee/rewatching bits and OMG SO AWESOME. I stream Moretsu Pirates on my phone despite it not really being suitable for mobile phone watching! Someone watched Nodame over my shoulder on the bus and I flashed a thumbs up at him! (Ok not in RL but I was doing it in my head and I may have angled the screen so he could get a better look.) And I browse for Homestuck fanart every day!
I'm just going to concentrate on Korra for this post. I managed to get around the country restrictions through some very nice friends and I dled the first two episodes.
I'm so glad I did. The one thing I liked about Avatar was how it was willing to go into the lushness and the otherness of places. Seeing the South Pole as it was pictured in the Avatar world was so awesome and nostalgic all over again.
Then we met Korra! Korra! All my life I've been waiting for a character like this. A girl who's the Chosen One who isn't all shy about her powers. A girl who is human and believable about the way she handles things. And on top of it all, a girl who isn't white.
With that combo, I admit I tearbended at the shot when Korra was riding her polar bear dog (POLAR BEAR DOG) across the ice. Because it was both exhilirating and beautiful and she was so confident and *tearbends*.
And the thing I really love about Korra is that she talks with her whole body, not just her mouth. She's got a thing with gestures that just makes me all sigh and happy. Plus she's a brash character, so her movements aren't small movements. They're wide and open and expressive. *heart flutter*
I will also never, ever stop being amazed by Avatar fight scenes, and I got plenty of them in the first two eps. Fire bending! Water bending! Earth bending! METAL BENDING! OMG METAL BENDING I want to be in the Avatar world police force, even though they're kind of Dai Li in nature but Eeeeeeee metal bending. (Also I like Lin Bei Fong. No nonsense superiors who know what they want are awesome.) So having PRO-BENDING on top of all that where you can see 3 types of bending at a go is super duper awesome. Eeeeeeeee.
In conclusion: Korra is A++++++++ would watch again. But with all the things I'm catching up on, I'm not bummed at all about waiting till April 21st for new eps. S'COOL I GOT THINGS TO DO.
