I HAET TRANSFORMING ROBOTS

Apr 09, 2010 22:55

So apparently while I've been away at work, my Transformers have been taking impromptu flight lessons. You see, the top shelf of my (relatively) emptier cupboard is the only space tall enough to accomodate Optimus Prime and Ironhide, and has been their home so far. This cupboard is right next to the window, and doesn't have any glass panels. This setup appears to be perfect for giving robots an extra lift for take off.

Me: The wind blew my robots down?
Mom: Yeah, the wind causes the curtains to knock the robots over!
Me: ...
Mom: I'm SERIOUS.

I continue to radiate disbelief, because firstly, my curtains are the type of light lacy curtains which are supposed to let light in but provide enough cover to discourage the neighbours from peeking. By right, these lightweight curtains shouldn't be able to knock robots over. Secondly my cupboard is RIGHT NEXT TO THE WINDOW which means that for the curtain to get anywhere near knocking things on the top shelf over, the curtain has to be like, 90 degrees to the wall. I dunno what sort of hurricane winds my house has been experiencing, but apparently it only disturbs the robots.

This time the fall was bad enough for Optimus to lose his head (literally) so I took them down and thought of transforming them to make sure that things weren't too damaged in the fall. I'm now happy that my parents had the foresight not to buy Transformers for me when I was younger, because transforming robots when you've forgotten the instructions? IS PRETTY DAMN HARD. I think I may have strained a lot more things in the process of transforming the robots as opposed to the various falls they've (apparently) had.

For example, things are supposed to move in tandem! but only if you pull the right thing first! Also you have to twist things 180 degrees, but if you twist the wrong thing it comes off! And pegs are supposed to keep things in place, but you got to align them first! And so on. In the show the robots transform in a matter of seconds. In real life, even if you practice 1 billion times I think you can only get it down to a minute (or your toy falls apart first from the abuse. YOU CHOOSE.)

I DID manage to get both Optimus and Ironhide into vehicle mode and back into robot mode, and now they're on my computer desk where the curtains DEFINITELY CANNOT REACH. We'll see if they still decide to jump off the desk.

Quite ironically, my two Starscreams are happily sitting on the shelf just below and haven't gone for any impromptu flights. Not that they should.

life is weird, transformers
