So, for my first post I thought I would do something that's important & meaningful for me. As some of my friends know I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, a type of blood cancer, 2 months after finding out I was pregnant with our 3rd kid. Fortunately, it's a slower growing, not as lethal type of cancer that should be relatively easy to treat once the baby is born (assuming I'm in the 75% of people with CML that respond extremely well to the main medication used).
What most people don't know is that my husband Rob has been planning on running the Philadelphia Marathon since he did the 1/2 marathon last year. After learning about my diagnosis he decided to dedicate this race to me & everyone living with blood cancers by fundraising. He joined a group called Team In Training which is the world's largest training organization and it is dedicated to raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Tomorrow he will make his final commitment to running the Philly Marathon for LLS and hand over his first bunch of donations.
I'm really proud of Rob for doing this and for all the work he has put into the fund raising effort as well as his physical training while still caring for me and the children. This pregnancy hasn't been an easy one, for me or for him. My husband is an extreme introvert so to see him taking the initiative to go around to local stores asking if his flyer can be hung up in their windows, meeting with people to try and get his story out there and calling different companies trying to get them to partner with him for fundraising events has shocked me and made me so very proud.
If anyone is interested in reading more about our story, CML & its treatment and Rob's training, here is his Team in Training website -
