I can't post this on Facebook because it's bound to piss some people off, since they can't take the time to think for themselves. Here's the wall post that really got me thinking about this:
"A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision, Each group of people, every religion; Every ethnicity, every hue, Everyone, everywhere...even you. So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth... May you and your loved ones, enjoy peace on Earth."
Do you know what it would be like if everything were truly peaceful? It would not last long. First off, no one would want to "step on the little man" and rise to the top of anything, so there would be no advancement in things like science, medicine, or even society as a whole. We'd all just be sitting ducks waiting for nothing to happen, because we wouldn't compete for anything at all anymore. Wars would stop, obviously, which would halt the progression of many inventions, like the ones spawned from past wars that have helped humans, other animals, and the rest of the world as a whole. Unrest has been the main factor of every cure for every disease that had previously been plaguing humanity. Were life all about peace, we'd still be dying of the common cold. The way things are in undeveloped countries that have no "corrupt" government or "unwanted" armies is pretty much the way it would be everywhere were world peace to actually happen.
Besides this, I love the fact that they assume world peace would make everybody happy. Are they really ignorant enough to think that everybody wants that? Do they not realize that there is a startlingly large population that enjoys nothing more than violence? Anyone who enjoys competition above all, which is a good portion of the Americans that claim to love peace around Christmas time, would be miserable if peace were actually enforced. Imagine if they and one other person were going for the last Zhu Zhu Pet (one of the hottest toys this season) at the toy store. If this peace they wanted were to be in effect, they'd both happily walk away and leave it for someone else. Do they really do that? No, they either quickly grab it and pretend not to notice the other person, or bitch and complain when the other quickly grabs it.
In short, world peace could never happen and, if by chance it did, it would not last for any measure of time, nor would I personally want it to. I just find it humorous how people take other idiots' groundless ideals, don't even put any thought in to it, and repeat it like a parrot because they think it'll make them look good. The one true thing about the afformentioned wall post is the price beyond worth. Yes, the price is life and all comfort and knowledge as we know it. Today's lesson: think a little before droning on about stuff you don't even know about.
peace,
