My Comps that is. That means I now have an official plan to get a PhD :-) oh yeah and a pay raise :-) Now I just need to push out a couple more papers in the next 9 months and then life will be on cruise control. Oh wait then I have to find a job and then think about having baby(ies).

We had an Admission to candidacy exam at the end of my 1st semester of Grad school that was the nerve wrecker. My comps were more of a meeting to propose what will do for research that is worthy of their money and a PhD with my committee. I got to a point last friday where I was done. I had polished the written proposal and the presentation as much as I was going to. Monday was spent doing work that was not related to the proposal and 2 hrs on Tuesday was spent reading my submitted paper, the proposal, and the presentation, and some lit directly related to what I was proposing, just to get me warmed up. Then at 9:30 I went upstairs prepared the conference room, setting up the video conferencing equipment. At 10:00 I gave the presentation that lasted ~55 min with questions. They then dismissed me. By 11:00 they had called me back into the conference room and informed me that I passed. I tend to get to a point where studying is no longer beneficial. My attitude becomes "either I am going to do extremely well or I am going to fail so miserably that it will no longer matter." When I get to that point, I am ready and I have yet to fail once I get to that point.
