I have a problem with our nation. The problem stems from the mantra "Well if you do not have nothing to hide then this law will not infringe on your rights" I have nothing to hide but, the laws are infringing on my rights. Primarily the "liberty" part. Yes i know that i am not free to do what ever I want whenever I want, but I should not have to present my ID to get on a plane, to walk around town, to attend a sporting event, or do anything else where I am not operating a piece of equipment, transferring money from an account, or for any other matter of personal security. I am not safer by having some agency knowing who is on the plane next to me, if the person has been inspected and deemed safe to sit on plane then why does one need to know who it is? Why do COPS think they have right to ask or your divers license if you are walking? Last time I checked no one need a license to walk. Why can the FBI and other Agencies confiscate everything you own based on an administrative subpoena, which does not requires a judges signiture? If the executive branch wanted so much power they could have instituted marshal law, instead they got all the patriots post 9-11 to sign the patriot act which gave certain agencies the right to do what ever they want with little oversight, and now we are about to have an ID card that will invariably be used for everything that we do now. If you want to get on a train just swipe your card, get on a plane just let us swipe your ID, want to get into some local event sure no problem just swipe your ID mean while every time that ID is swiped your info along with for what reason it was swiped will be saved to a federal database that could be latter searched to see if your activities were suspicious! If we are really coming to this why not just tattoo a bar code on my forehead and have non visible lasers scan the barcode and match it to the bio features found in my face. If they match then I am who I say I am if they don't then you can take me to jail for impersonating someone else. Then comes this statement "Well if you do not have anything to hide, then you will not mind us searching" Well if I have nothing to hide why are you trying to search me in the first place. I do not mind a nationwide ID provided that none of the data on the ID is stored anywhere accept on that ID! Well what a about forgeries, well make an honest attempt to prevent tampering and forging and then if someone is found in possession of a altered ID, charge them of misrepresenting who they are and let the judicial system deal with it. Now once I have been convicted of a crime then yes go ahead and log my info into a nationwide database. Then the next time I am charged with a crime and the info is entered into the database the person entering the information (which will include my contact info) will be altered to the fact that he may need to do some follow up with me if the previous charges have not been rectified. So Mr. Govenor please keep standing up for my rights, I do not like the premise of real ID, I do not like how the patriot act has been implemented, and I do not like getting told that I have been randomly selected for extra screening at the airport. Random implies that there is no pattern, do one of the things on the secret list and you too will be selected for extra screening. My favorite way of getting randomly selected is to book a ticket less than 24 hrs in advance of your departure. That is not profiling I am just randomly selected along with everyone else who happen to by their ticket less than 24 hrs in advance. I want those rights back that were guaranteed to every citizen of the United states in the constitution. Laws should only serve to protect the people form government and grant people freedom.
