As you may be aware, Britney Spears was once asked in an interview why she chose to cover the song "I Love Rock and Roll". Her response was, "Because I love Pat Benatar". This answer made her the joke of the internet community due to the fact that it was Joan Jett who recorded "I Love Rock and Roll" and not Pat Benatar. However, recent evidence suggests that Ms. Spears may have been treated unfairly in the matter. The full text of that interview, which has finally turned up, reveals that the aforementioned quote was taken very much out of context.

Interviewer: So, Britney. Why did you cover "I Love Rock and Roll"?

Britney: Because I love Pat Benatar.

Interviewer: You mean Joan Jett.

Britney: No, I meant Pat Benatar.

Interviewer: But Pat Benatar didn't record "I Love Rock and Roll". Joan Jett did.

Britney: I know. Look, let me explain. Now am I known for my musical talent?

Interviewer: No, not at all.

Britney: Are my records even remotely listenable?

Interviewer: I wouldn't say they are.

Britney: Do I ever record anything which does not end up completely sucking in one way or another?

Interviewer: Oh, I see. Since everything you record becomes crap in your hands, recording a Pat Benatar song would render IT crap.

Britney: Right. So my way of showing how much I love Pat Benatar is by recording a song NOT by her!

Interviewer: So what are your future plans, Britney? Are you going to be touring this summer?

Britney: Yes I am.
