Reading Twilight So You Don't Have To: Chapter Five

Sep 20, 2009 17:58

On Thursday, Carly came home from school and said that her homeroom class is so bored with Twilight, they asked if they could vote on a different book. To be fair, part of it is that most of the kids have already read it, and the pace is rather slow one chapter at a time. But still. Pretty amusing ( Read more... )

Makes the whole Buffy-Spike dynamic look like sweet innocent fun eh?

I love Carly. LOVE her. She is awesome. (As are Ally and Drew, but Carly gets the big points today)

It's actually very much like the Buffy/Angel dynamic, only with less likable characters and much worse writing. And no sense at ALL that maybe this isn't a good thing.

And thanks. :)

That was part of my problem with Buffy/Angel. The age difference was just too much (even if he weren't a vampire, actually.) There's a POWER difference between adults and teenagers.

But by the time the thing with Spike happened, she was an adult, so it worked much better.

I could start alternating chapters with The Lost Symbol for even more crazy fun.

Oooh, maybe you should read that so I don't have to! ;)

How on God's Green Earth did my friends get through this book? They said it was fun, easy beach sort of reading, but seriously, It's almost too painful to read your chapter-by-chapter critique of it. Gag.

I have no idea. I thought I'd only be squicked by the relationship which, in fairness, is a hot button topic for me. But I absolutely LOATHE Bella and Edward as characters. I do not understand what anyone finds appealing in them, and if you don't like the hero or heroine (unless the story is ironic), then what's the point?

Someone please write a fanfic where Bruce Wayne and Edward have a mope-off.

Also, someone please write a fanfic where Bram Stoker's Dracula opens up a can of whoopass on Edward for his ungentlemanly behavior? Dracula at least you could take to a dinner party. He might not eat much but he at least knew how to make polite conversation.

And I'm glad you're going to keep writing these--I just wish it wasn't making me want to reread it. Once was enough!

Yeah, see that's what makes Dracula a great book. He's creepy because he actually is charismatic. Meyer keeps TELLING us Edward is so perfect and such a draw, but she hasn't SHOWN us anything that makes me believe it.
