WyldStyle's secret identity

Oct 12, 2015 22:23

So I got a picture retweeted by Feminist Frequency today.

Some of you may not remember far back enough to realize what a crazy reversal this is, but back in 2012, when FemFreq was briefly doing analysis of the toy industry before moving on to video games, I was convinced that Anita Sarkeesian had a personal vendetta against me (see: " Feminist Frequency Enemy Number One," the entry right before the exceptionally non-objectifying post, " boobs").

The picture itself isn't that any particular masterpiece - FemFreq is selling a new t-shirt and I did a five-second photoshop to put it onto WyldStyle from The LEGO Movie - but in so doing I spotted something I'd never noticed before.

I've got to admit I thought it was weird that the movie guys made WyldStyle's color palette such a specifically non-LEGO pair of colors, but I never thought to wonder why.

I wonder if they spent billable hours trying to figure out how to make hoop earrings in Lego.

ALSO: Not to spoiler the movie or anything, but pay attention to how WyldStyle kicks off the revolution and saves the world.
