I recommend you all read Matthew Good's piece on Remembrance Day, as well as everything else on his Blog. It's important to note that we don't call it Veterans Day, like our gun toting neighbors. We call it what we do because it's not just about honoring our fallen soldiers, it's about learning why they fought for our freedom. They fought so ( Read more... )

i think you're right to say that ww2 could've been prevented, and that's a shame.

i just cant help notice how it sounds like you're contradicting yourself. one minute you say that "they fought for our freedom" the next you say that "world war two was partly our fault". they didnt fight for our freedom, they defended themselves and the world because they made a mistake and let things go on much longer than they should have. sounds like iraq now doesnt it? if we hadn't gotten involved thanks to "mummy", then there would've been no hope in hell for the rest of the world. thank god the americans came in when they did as well.

and about iraq and possibly iran very soon... i personally believe that an iraq with a failed democracy and U.S. troops is much better than an iraq with saddam hussien running things. not to say he was going to attack anyone, but i dont think leaving him there would've been a better course of action. you can question the americans motives behind it all you want though.

however, dont call me a bush supporter. but think about it what they've done. i pride myself on being a canadian, and the fact that we dont get involved in these big messes... but imagine we were the ones who were attacked...

my only problem is, that bin laden is still kicking back in the desert somewhere. they should never have shifted focus. the fact that they still dont have that man's head on a stick is what makes me feel awful.

my thoughts are a convoluted mess on this "web" page. hopefully you understand what im getting at.

if my internet crunks again ill kill myself. I had a reply that was longer than my post, so heres the gist of it.

I agree for the most part with you. I phrased thigns wrong so I'll do it right some time. About Iraq. Yes Saddam's bad. US are worse now, down the road, and even during Saddam's stay. Thing you have to keep in mind is that the US and the UN (us) probably did more damage to the people than Saddam ever did. He simply didnt have the power to do what we did with sanctions and bombing raids. And another thing. Think of it like this.

Your neighbor is a big mean drug dealer, who beats his kids but hes rich as shit, and hes not mean to you, so you like him. Across is a guy who beats his kids harder, but his meaness doesnt leave the house. So your neighbor goes across the street and kills the other guy, beats his kids only enough that they love him, and then lives in his house, and lives off his income, giving shit to his kids. Just because one bad guy got ousted, and the kids are treated better, that doesnt mean that they are better off.
